David Beckham stunned by Wrexham and Birmingham City fans as he helps Tom Brady
David Beckham was in attendance at St Andrew's on Monday night as Birmingham City beat Wrexham 3-1 in front of a packed out attendance in the Championship
David Beckham was thoroughly impressed by the electric atmosphere at St Andrew's on Monday night as he watched Birmingham City secure a victory over Wrexham, although he found himself explaining to his friend Tom Brady what the rival fans were chanting at each other.
The former England skipper and co-owner of Inter Miami was in the company of Blues minority shareholder and chair of the club's advisory board, NFL legend Brady, Knighthead's Tom Wagner, 'Peaky Blinders' creator Steven Knight, and ex-Manchester United teammate Gary Neville. The group witnessed Birmingham City's comeback to win 3-1 with goals from Jay Stansfield and Tomoki Iwata.
The match, broadcast globally, saw nearly 28,000 fans fill the stands at St Andrew's. Beckham praised the fan-generated atmosphere and admitted it made an impression on him, reminiscent of old times.
However, he had to field a question from Brady who was curious about the exact words of the chants, which were not suitable for broadcast.
"It was amazing [on Monday]. The atmosphere was great," Beckham recounted to CBS Sports. "You don't get that. I haven't seen an atmosphere like that for a long time, where the Birmingham and Wrexham fans were incredible but Tom was sat next to me and he was saying 'the atmosphere is amazing! But what are they singing? '", reports Birmingham Live.
"I said 'you want to know what they were singing about your team and what your fans are singing about Wrexham? ' He said 'yeah, tell me! ' I told him and he found it very funny. It's not for this show! ".
