Ally McCoist reaction to Celtic opener missed by TV cameras as Rangers hero delivers one-liner to Peter Schmeichel

McCoist told the Manchester United legend 'it looked offside'

Ally McCoist and TNT commentator Darren Fletcher

Ally McCoist told Peter Schmeichel he thought Celtic's opener was offside in a moment TV cameras missed, commentator Darren Fletcher revealed during the game.

The Hoops ran riot for their biggest ever Champions League win, downing Slovan Bratislava 5-1 on a famous night at Parkhead. Liam Scales got the first of those, before Kyogo, Arne Engels, Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah all got in the fun, with Kevin Wimmer's screamer the only response the blown-away Slovak could come up with when they were already 3-0 down.

The goals rained down in the second half but Scales' strike on 17 minutes was the only one scored in the first 45 so TNT had plenty of time to go over it at the break. And in a hilarious exchange shared between the commentator and his right-hand man McCoist, Fletcher revealed the Rangers hero had been at the wind-up with Schmeichel, who was at Parkhead to watch his son Kasper in action.

When the cameras cut to them at half-time, Fletcher said: "What you have missed is a wonderful conversation between Ally and Peter Schmeichel. Obviously Kasper's playing for Celtic, they lead 1-0, and Peter was quite happy to tell Ally about the score. Your response was?"

McCoist replied: "I was genuinely pleased for the Glasgow team..." before Fletcher said: "You said it looked offside from here..."
