Manchester United player who can play for England and Ukraine signs professional contact

Man Utd have handed out another professional contract to a promising youngster in the academy system.

Baumann has signed a professional contract.

Manchester United youngster Zach Baumann has signed his first professional contract with the club.

United's Under-18s enjoyed a stunning season in the 2023/24, completing a treble and winning two of those trophies at the expense of rivals Manchester City.

Several members of that team have been given professional contracts and Baumann, who made 21 appearances last season, is the latest to have been handed a pro deal.

Baumann also made a handful of appearances for the Under-21s and he's another highly regarded prospect. The youngster plays in midfield and is comfortable in prominent positions.

"Proud moment for me and my family to sign my first professional contract," Baumann wrote after sharing a photo of his deal, and his next challenge is to make his senior debut.

Baumann was born in Greater Manchester but is eligible to represent Ukraine's national team, which means he might have to decide whether to represent England or Ukraine later in his career.

The Ukrainian press have already reported on his dual nationality and have claimed early conversations have taken place with Baumann's family over his future plans.

FIFA's current eligibility rules allow players to switch international allegiances provided they have played no more than three senior competitive matches before turning 21.

Baumann took part in first-team training at Carrington in March and was one of a few players who were drafted into the session to make up numbers ahead of facing Brentford away.
