Liverpool fans were left livid at their own side's "Sunday League defending".

The Reds were back in action on Wednesday evening as they clashed with West Ham in the Carabao Cup. And it was the Hammers who drew first blood at Anfield as a comedy of errors led to the strike.

Arne Slot's side entered panic mode from a West Ham corner as it pinged around the six-yard box, falling to the feet of Edson Alvarez - whose shot hit the inside of Jarell Quansah's legs and deflected past Caoimhin Kelleher into the Liverpool net.

"Hahahah, that's Sunday League stuff," one fan fumed. While a second replied: "Wonderful to see Liverpool pay tribute to former Red Djimi Traore!"

"Bradley and Quansah are not different to Flanagan and Kelly. You will see that initial intensity and drive but you need intelligence & skill to make it at the top," a third said. And another added: "Quansah will have no reason to sulk for getting benched..."

The Reds weren't behind for long - and four minutes later Diogo Jota had them level.

Cody Gakpo picked up the ball out wide, finding out late summer signing Federico Chiesa, who spotted a leaping Jota to level the score. "The build up prior to the cross reminds me a bit of the 'this is football' goal against Hoffenheim. Lovely stuff," one fan gushed.

"We have never seen a footballer like him," a second said. And another added: "I can bet my everything that Diaz can't make a cross like that to the far post..."

However, West Ham fans were left livid due to a potential offside in the build-up to the goal.
