St Johnstone have made their moves to talk to Peter Leven and Tiernan Lynch.

The McDiarmid Park club has made official approaches to Aberdeen and Larne, respectively. The Dons first-team coach and title-winning Larne coach were both on St Johnstone final shortlist. The Perth side had held talks with Ayr United boss Scott Brown and were always going to speak to the other names they had identified as possible successors to Craig Levein.

Brown, however, decided to pull out and sign a new contract at Ayr United when he learned others were to be interviewed. Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin, though, doesn't want to lose Leven and is fighting hard to keep him at Pittodrie. Leven enhanced his reputation last season as he took Aberdeen out of a relegation fight and led them to the bottom of the top six, in an impressive unbeaten run.

Larne are also reluctant to let Lynch go. He is also in the midst of a historic Europa Conference League group campaign. Both clubs would be looking for significant compensation if Leven or Lynch were to move to Perth.

New St Johnstone owner Adam Webb, who is going through cancer treatment, sacked Levein earlier this month. FIrst-team coaches Andy Kirk and Alec Cleland have been left in temporary charge.
