Celtic faced a 7-1 humiliation by Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park, as Karim Adeyemi netted a first-half hat-trick to sink the Scottish Premiership side in emphatic fashion.
The away team could not build on their impressive Champions League-opening 5-1 win over Slovan Bratislava, and their immaculate start to the domestic season, as Nuri Sahin's side ran rampant in front of a buoyant, bumper crowd.
Emre Can opened the scoring from the penalty spot just seven minutes in, after Jamie Bynoe-Gittens saw the ball fortuitously ricochet into the path of his surging run, prompting a rush of blood from Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to bring the Englishman down.
Celtic temporarily restored parity with an equaliser two minutes later, Daizen Maeda bundling in Arne Engels' pin-point cross.
Adeyemi got his scoring underway to peg Celtic back in the eleventh minute, racing onto Julian Brandt's searching ball to fire home a deflected effort. And the Dortmund forward grabbed his second in staggering style as he powered home a left-footed strike into the roof of the net from a tight angle just shy of the half-hour mark.
Serhou Guirassy tucked home a penalty five minutes from half-time, while Adeyemi condemned Celtic to a continually worsening evening as he latched onto a slack pass to fire home a low effort into the bottom corner to send the sides into the break at 5-1.

And while Celtic stopped the bleeding in the second half – helped in large part to the enforced substitution of Adeyemi – they could not prevent Guirassy from netting Dortmund's sixth on 66 minutes.
Substitute Felix Nmecha made matters worse for Brendan Rodgers' side as he added Dortmund's seventh 11 minutes from time.
Meanwhile, Robert Lewandowski was at the double as Barcelona sunk Young Boys to a crushing 5-0 defeat in Catalonia.
The 36-year-old continued his fine start to the season, showing striker's instinct to tap home Raphinha's cross just eight minutes in.
The hosts were firmly in control, and former Leeds United forward Raphinha doubled their lead just past the half hour, and three minutes later Inigo Martinez headed home Pedri's free-kick for a comfortable half-time lead.
Young Boys' misery was compounded nine minutes from time as Mohamed Camara turned into his own net from Alejandro Balde's cross.
Meanwhile, Inter also recorded a comfortable victory as they downed Red Star Belgrade 4-0 at the San Siro.

Hakan Calhanoglu got the scoring underway in spectacular style, striking home an inch-perfect free-kick into the far corner, before Marko Arnautovic doubled the hosts' lead with his first goal in Inter colours.
The Serie A champions' talisman Lautaro Martinez got in on the goalscoring action in the 71st minute, before Mehdi Taremi converted a penalty 10 minutes later as Inter clinched their first Champions League victory of the season.
Elsewhere, Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen edged AC Milan 1-0 with Victor Boniface scoring the game's only goal at the BayArena, while PSV Eindhoven and Sporting CP played out a 1-1 draw in Eindhoven.

Ligue 1 outfit Brest continued their perfect start to life in the UEFA Champions League as they thrashed Red Bull Salzburg 4-0 in Austria on Tuesday.
Brighton & Hove Albion loanee Abdallah Sima led by example up front, scoring twice to make it three goals from two matches in the European competition so far.
The result condemned Salzburg – led by Jurgen Klopp's former assistant Pep Lijnders – to another heavy Champions League defeat, after losing 3-0 to Sparta Prague in their opener.
The 23-year-old Sima struck first in the 24th minute, capping off a blistering counter-attack as his incisive run through Salzburg's gaping left-hand side was found by Ludovic Ajorque.
Brest's second came in direct style as Mama Balde latched onto Marco Bizot's pin-point goal kick, racing through before having his low-cross blocked, only into the path of Mahdi Camara who duly dispatched to double his side's lead.
And the Ligue 1 side's first-ever European away day continued to get better as Sima grabbed his second just five minutes later – tapping home the rebound from Hugo Magnetti's parried effort.
Mathias Pereira Lage capped off a magnificent evening in Austria, firing a precise low effort into the bottom corner after Balde again wreaked havoc with Salzburg's left side.
Meanwhile, Stuttgart got their first UEFA Champions League point on the board since 2009/10 with a 1-1 draw at home to Sparta Prague.

The Bundesliga side struck inside seven minutes, despite a strong start from the visitors, as Enzo Millot nodded home from Maximilian Mittelstadt's high, floated cross from the left.
But Sparta midfielder Kaan Kairinen fired home a stunning free-kick to level the scores on 32 minutes, and neither side could find the breakthrough in the second half.
