Former Aston Villa striker Dwight Yorke has suggested Arsenal should make an attempt to sign Jhon Duran as he believes their title challenge lacks 'an outstanding No.9.

Villa's attacking options have proven their worth in the opening weeks of the campaign, especially Duran. The 20-year-old currently boasts the Premier League's best minutes-to-goals ratio, averaging one every 39 minutes with four strikes in total to his name.

After some catching up due to a slow start, Ollie Watkins now matches the Colombian's tally and still keeps him out of the starting line-up. Clearly Yorke feels the Gunners can capitalise and in the process solve a big problem of their own.

"Jhon Duran, he looks a real handful and a bit different from the rest. He’s got that good presence about him," he told Prime Casino.

"I would take a chance on him, he looks like the real deal. What I look for is people who are hungry, and he’s got that. In terms of the big boys, Arsenal haven’t got an outstanding No. 9."

Currently Mikel Arteta utilises Kai Havertz, who arrived at the club more comfortable as an attacking midfielder, as the central man in his attack. He also has Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard, though they too have other positions they are able to play.

Arsenal's entry to the race would present a challenging question, firstly for Villa and whether they would accept any fee to help strengthen a direct top-four rival, then to the other London clubs who previously expressed interest in Duran. During the summer Chelsea and West Ham United were closely monitoring his situation but failed to match his prior asking price of £40m. If his current form continues there is no telling yet where Villa's valuation will end up.

Lastly, Duran would have to decide again whether he wishes to leave were an appropriate offer to be tabled. His summer of flirting with suitors suggested he would be open to new possibilities, though before and after has found himself producing the goods in a set-up in which he thrives.
