Gabby Agbonlahor feels Jhon Duran trouble brewing after Bayern Munich win
Jhon Duran was Aston Villa's match winner from the bench against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, but Gabby Agbonlahor fears he may wish to be more than that
Gabby Agbonlahor suggests Unai Emery will have a selection problem on his hands if striker Jhon Duran manages to stay in his current vein of form.
Villa 's 20-year-old Colombian has been the hero on so many occasions already this campaign, scoring match-winning goals against West Ham, Leicester City, Everton, Wolves and Wycombe Wanderers already. It turns out those strikes were a warm-up for him to make a lasting impression on t he club's most important fixture in modern history.
Arriving from the bench in place Ollie Watkins, who had spent 70 minutes ruffling the feathers of Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae, Duran bullied his way past the former to take Pau Torres' through ball, then lobbed over Manuel Neuer. A 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich was sealed, with the striker's name etched into all accounts of events.
He is now Villa's top scorer in all competitions by two clear goals, and speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor explained that Emery may soon have to have a difficult conversation.
"The problem as well is Duran has scored now six goals in 290 minutes. Six goals in 290 minutes. It shows he's an outstanding footballer and the problem Emery has got is it's the amount of goals he's scoring and the performances he's putting in, sooner or later as a player you're gonna want to start."
But still revelling in what he called 'one of the best nights he's had as a Villa fan', he batted that notion away saying: "Listen, we'll worry about that in the future."
During the summer Duran's future in the West Midlands was in doubt as he maybe felt ready for the opportunity to play in the Premier League. Chelsea and West Ham emerged willing to offer this, but then each failed to come close to finalising a transfer.
Of course any forward hitting the back of the net at such a rate would catch the attention of most high-profile clubs. Host Alan Brazil had teased the idea that greater interest in Duran could develop if his goals were to increase in the coming months, with a dismissive Agbonlahor again saying: Nah, he [Emery] will be fine keeping him, he's contracted."
