Che Adams takes Torino history lessons to heart as Scotland star clues up on club's darkest hour

The forward has hit the ground running in Italy, scoring four goals in his first nine matches in Turin

Che Adams admits he is already aware of the Scottish greats that came before him at Torino and says he is doing everything to settle into his new club.

The striker has made a superb start in Italy since joining the Serie A club on a free transfer last summer, registering four goals and two assists in his first nine matches in all competitions - including the winner against Europa League holders Atalanta on his home league debut. The forward is the first Scotland player to represent the Turin club since the legendary Denis Law back in the early 1960s, who spent a solitary season in Italy - scoring 10 Serie A goals - before returning to the UK with Manchester United.

Fast-forward to the late 1990s, and another Tartan Army great Graeme Souness spent four months in the dugout at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino in 1997 before being dismissed. Adams and Napoli duo Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay are the latest Scots to try their luck in Italy, joining Bologna skipper Lewis Ferguson and Empoli's Liam Henderson in Serie A.

Adams, 28, also reveals he has learned about the tragic Superga air disaster that claimed the lives of 31 people - including Torino's entire football team and manager Erno Egri Erbstein- on May 4, 1949 after crashing into the walls of the city's Basilica of Superga. The disaster ended a run of four consecutive Serie A titles for the club, who last lifted the Scudetto in 1976.

Speaking on a chat with journalist and presenter James Richardson and Napoli star Gilmour on Scotland's YouTube channel ahead of the Nations League double header with Croatia and Portugal, he said: "Yeah I've heard a lot about him (Law) and Graeme Souness who was the manager here for four months. They are big on their history (here) and obviously there was that tragedy all them years ago with that plane crash.

"I have yet to go up to the Superga but I am willing to give it a try. It's just important for the city and the club to buy into the history and take pride in everything that is important to them."

Torino briefly topped the Serie A table on matchday five, and former Southampton and Birmingham City striker Adams is hopeful that they can build on their strong start to the campaign. Asked if he is feeling love from Il Toro's fans, he replied: "Yeah they are (loving me).

"Everything is going well so far and hopefully we can keep it up. But right now I am just riding the wave and enjoying every single minute of it."
