MATT O'RILEY is almost finally set to kickstart his Brighton career.

The former Celtic midfielder hasn't played for the Seagulls since he suffered a serious ankle injury on his nightmare debut for the club following his record-breaking move.

O'Riley, 23, was forced off the pitch only EIGHT minutes into his first appearance for the club just one day after sealing the switch down south.

He was given the nod to start by Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler in their EFL Cup clash against Crawley Town on August 27 and has been sidelined ever since.

The German revealed at the time that the playmaker would be ruled out of action for around three months following a scan.

But in a promising update this afternoon, O'Riley looks like he is nearing his return after making his comeback to training.

Brighton posted a video on social media showing the midfielder getting back down to work on the training ground.

The club uploaded the clip along with the caption "Getting closer..." accompanied with the Denmark flag.

In the video, it looks like the 23-year-old has been training alone as he steps up his fitness before returning to full training with the rest of his team-mates.

Hurzeler confirmed O'Riley still isn't available for selection and won't be involved in their Premier League clash with Newcastle on Saturday.

But while fans still need to wait to see the midfielder back in action again, supporters revealed their delight at seeing him on the turf again.

Replying to the post on social media, one fan commented: "I'm looking forward to it."
