Former Premier League star Robbie Savage once pooed in referee Graham Poll's private toilet, before allegedly leaving the door open and failing to flush on his way out.
Savage, who turns 50 today, October 18, enjoyed a lengthy playing career, turning out for Leicester City, Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City and Derby County. He is now managing non-league Macclesfield, whom he hopes to guide out of the Northern Premier League this term and into the National League North.
However, during his days as a player, Savage was no stranger to controversy - winding up opponents and rival fans. And back in April 2002 while playing for Leicester, it is alleged the former Wales international decided to have a number two just 10 minutes prior to facing off against Aston Villa.
With the Foxes and Villa just minutes away from kick-off, Savage went to official Graham Poll's private toilet and took an emergency dump. At the time, The Sun reported Savage left the door open after doing his business, refusing to flush after he had been to the toilet.
The former Leicester and Blackburn star was fined a whopping £10,000 for improper conduct - which at the time was the equivalent of two weeks' wages for Savage. He was fined due to FA rules preventing players from entering an official's dressing room without permission.
However, Savage's reasoning for the stinky business was due to the fact he was suffering from bad diarrhoea at the time. Writing in his 2010 autobiography, in which he claims both Leicester's cubicles were occupied, Savage detailed how he was suffering from a bout of diarrhoea after taking antibiotics for a cut on his leg.
Savage wrote: "Everyone was laughing. I came charging out of the toilet because the bell had gone. And no, I hadn’t washed my hands because of the rush I was in.
"During the game, Poll was laughing about the whole thing. He didn’t seem angry at all. That night, it was the Player of the Year dinner and my boss Micky Adams asked: ‘What have you done? Poll has made a complaint that you went into his room without permission and used his toilet. We’re fining you two weeks’ wages'.”
Savage also added that he "didn't like" Poll, writing: "He thinks he is pretty special and I’m not quite sure why."
