Raging Kris Boyd has declared that "this ain't working" at Rangers after they blew their chance to close the gap on Celtic and Aberdeen at Kilmarnock.

After the Scottish Premiership top two draw in Glasgow's east end on Saturday, Philippe Clement's men travelled to Ayrshire knowing that three points at Rugby Park would ramp up the pressure at the summit and put them back in the running for the title race. But the fluffed their lines with a lacklustre showing on the plastic pitch as Marley Watkins netted late on to seal a big result for Derek McInnes men.

The showing left Boyd apoplectic on Sky Sports at the full-time whistle - as he immediately jumped on James Tavernier and Co for applauding the away fans after a dire display. That kickstarted a heated rant as he warned sceptics of his recent Rangers' slapdowns that this was the brutal reality for the Light Blues this season.

He said: "Some of the players put more effort into clapping at the end and saying sorry to the fans. People will think you are a broken down record, but it has not been good enough. You might be winning games of football, but there is no intensity to the play, there is no sharpness, they don't create anything.

"It's more hope that they are going to score a goal. The substitutions don't impact games, they are miles off it. Everyone thinking 'oh here he goes again, another rant' - it's the truth. The sooner that people realise this ain't working the better."

Asked why they are so far the performance levels required to get a result at Rugby Park, the Rangers hero went on: 'I don't know. You got a lifeline yesterday. You look at it and you think there is a chance to get yourself back in a title race; it's not a surprise that result today.

"We said it at the top of the show, Kilmarnock are a physical team and they will cause you problems. Rangers; there is just nothing.

"You look at Cyriel Dessers, and I know it will always fall back on the striker when you're not scoring goals, you are going to be the one that is criticised, but he doesn't really get anything created for him either. We speak about Bajrami - there is glimpses where he comes in and looks good, Cerny might look good but they don't create anything."

Pressed by Celtic hero Chris Sutton on if he would let the impact of the plastic pitch play a part in his thinking. Boyd slapped that down: "Nah, the surface will play a part if you let it play a part. We have seen Celtic and Rangers come here and dominate games."
