EL HADJI DIOUF struggled to keep his mouth shut and courted controversy with his various comments and actions throughout his career.

But one of his former team-mates has revealed he never heard from the ex-Senegal star for WEEKS after the forward blanked him for no reason.

Diouf, 43, signed for Rangers in 2011 on loan from Blackburn and spent six months at Ibrox, helping Walter Smith win the league and League Cup double.

But despite only spending half a year in Scotland, it was still a rather eventful spell in Govan as he stayed in the limelight throughout the stint.

And that was the case at his other clubs too as he was always considered a divisive figure wherever he went.

Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy found that out first hand when he played with Diouf at Anfield.

Diouf spent three years with the Reds and was part of their League Cup triumph in his first season at the club.

But even though he was a regular in the first team throughout the spell, Murphy has now stated that he never felt the Senegalese player was good enough to be considered a Liverpool star.

And he has branded some of his antics "strange", pointing to that fact the attacker didn't speak to him for close to a month because of something he never even done.

Discussing the controversial forward, Murphy told the Open Goal podcast: “He was quite strange. He was fine when he got there (Liverpool), he was quite fun. He wasn't really a goal scorer, he ended up playing on the right.

“And he had a bit, you know, he was strong and could keep the ball for you, but he wasn't really a Liverpool player. He didn't have the attitude at times and he fell out with Stevie (Gerrard) early.

“When you try and have a pop at him, or you try to speak to him, you know, it's a bit dismissive, and then it goes off.

“I'll never forget, I was all right with him to a degree, and then one day he didn't talk to me, and I was like, ‘what's up?’ And he was just ignoring me. I was like, ‘why are you not talking to me?’

“He just ignored me. So that went on for about three or four weeks and I didn't know why.

"Then we went out for a night out, all the lads, because we'd had a beverage, he ended up having a chat, and he claimed that I said something about when I went over to the bench and he heard it.

“He completely misheard something. You know, because of the language thing. Why would I be talking about him when he sat there?

“So he accepted that I hadn't said anything and we were fine, but I was like, he didn’t speak to me for a month over something I didn't say. He was a bit mad.”
