Ridvan Yilmaz nears Rangers return as injury nightmare almost over for Turkey star

The left-back hasn't played a first-team game for the Light Blues since August but is in line for a comeback

Philippe Clement has received an injury boost with Ridvan Yilmaz returning to Rangers training.

However, he won't be ready in time for the Europa League clash with Steaua Bucharest on Thursday night. Pressure has been mounting on the Belgian boss after the Scottish Premiership defeat to Kilmarnock but he will now look to get his Ibrox plan back on track.

Yilmaz is closing in on his first time since August. The 23-year-old hasn't featured for Rangers since the second leg of their Champions League qualification defeat to Dynamo Kyiv. He was spotted being put through his paces by Clement and the coaching team at Auchenhowie before matchday three of the league phase.

But the boss confirmed that the clash had come too soon for him: "Ridvan trained with the team today for a second time, so it is too fast to put him into a game tomorrow. He is progressing well."
