Panathinaikos vs Chelsea - Conference League RECAP: Score, team news and updates as Blues run riot with summer signing staking claim for regular starts

The Ukrainian put in one of his best performances for the Blues in some time. He ran straight over to his manager when he scored his goal and the signs of improvement under Maresca look good. Imagine if he could realise the potential he had at Shakhtar. Okay, I'm getting a bit carried away.

Job well done for the visitors as boos ring out in the Athens Olympic Stadium. Chelsea were in control from pretty much start to finish but they had to turn up the tempo after the break to create some separation from their opponents.

That will please Maresca most of all. His side have got back to winning ways after their defeat against Liverpool on Sunday and made it back-to-back victories in the Conference League this term.

Disasi becomes only the second player to go into the book after giving away a free-kick on the edge of the area. This should be the last action of the match.

Panathinaikos' ordeal is nearly over. Just three additional minutes for the home side to endure before this one is over. Chelsea meanwhile, especially Felix, are still looking for another.

Former academy star Tyrique George must have had about eight shots since he's come onto the pitch. The youngster is clearly desperate to get on the scoresheet tonight.

The home team come agonisingly close to grabbing that second goal on two occasions. First, Viega miscued a clearance and nearly saw the ball loop over his goalkeeper and into the net.

From the resulting corner, Jorgensen made a mess of a bunch and had to rely on Badiashille to clear the ball off the line. Nervy stuff all of a sudden.

Just over 10 minutes to play in Athens. Another goal for the home side would have this interesting, given that Panathinaikos have a stronger team on the pitch now than at the beginning of the game.

It's yet more changes for the visitors here as they look to wind things down ahead of their weekend clash against Newcastle. Dewsbury-Hall is the latest to depart for Chukwuemeka.

Shortly after the goal, Cesare Casadei came on for Fernandez, while Duricic and Sporar have joined the action in place of the goalscorer Pellistri and Jeremejeff for the home side.

Chelsea understandably take their eye off the ball for a minute and the hosts grab themselves a goal for their efforts. That's one for the home supporters who have been quiet since Chelsea scored their second.

The former Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri taps in at the far post after a decent move and crisp cross. The Blues will be disappointed not to keep a clean sheet.

Vagiannidis and Tete come on for Mancini and Mladenovic for the home side, while Nkunku and Neto depart for Marc Guiu George.

That's four! The Frenchman keeps his cool and keeps up his record of scoring from the spot in Europe this season. He also had to do his best to not be off put by the lasers pointing at his face. UEFA will surely take a look at that after the match.

It's going from bad to worse for the home side here. Felix is involved again as his pass into the box hits the arm of full-back Mladenovic. The defender is unfortunate but the decision is correct. Nkunku to take this one.

They're purring now. Chelsea's lead expands to three thanks to Felix's second of the night. The forward gets a slice of luck as his shot deflects off Maksimovic and wrong-foots Dragowski in goal.

That might be the game. Mudryk gets rewarded for his fine overall display with a header at the far post from Neto's accurate cross. The Ukrainian showed great determination to win a ball he looked second favourite for. It's the perfect start to the second half for the visitors who can shut the game down from here.

Nkunku looked towards the referee after going to ground following a coming-together with Schenkeveld. The Frenchman turned on the after-burners to break into the box but was well-tracked by the defender. No penalty said the official, in truth, there weren't many shouts from Nkunku's Chelsea team-mates.

The second half is underway. What have the home side got? Anything they can do to trouble the Premier League giants.

The teams are as they were at the start of the second period.

Not the most thrilling of first halves but Chelsea have the lead, and that’s most important. Mykhailo Mudryk has looked lively on the left. Enzo Maresca told him to take his chance to impress - after being left out of the squad for the Liverpool game - and I’d say he is.

Panathinaikos are managed by former Uruguay and Sevilla manager Diego Alonso. The coach decided to bench several of his star players for the visit of Chelsea, presumably because he thought his side would lose the game anyway.

But with them still only being one down, will he change tack after the break?

So far so good for Maresca's men. Panathinaikos started brightly and had a chance after only a few seconds but since then the Blues have been in total control of the clash. Maresca will be delighted that this second string looks about his fluid and accomplished as his preferred XI.

The Blues look in a good place at the moment.

The home fans are continuing to do their bit, belting out tune after tune despite their side struggling on the pitch. Blues defender Badiashile has just committed his third foul of the half - he'll surely be in the book next time.

Felix tries his luck from range and why not. The Portuguese unleashed a drive from about 25 yards. It had a lot of dip and power, the only issue was that it was never on target. Danger averted for the home side.

It's gone a bit scrappy in the last few minutes, which suits both teams, I suppose. Panathinaikos will be relieved to have survived that latest bout of Chelsea pressure, while the visitors will be content with their goal advantage for the time being.

The Blues are in complete control now since going in front. Panathinaikos will be desperate to ensure they don't go in more than one goal behind at the break. Their attacking threat has all but disappeared in the last few minutes and Chelsea looking in good shape to grab another... and then another.

The visitors go close to a second but are denied by a fine save by Dragowski. The keeper reacted quickly to Fernandez's cracking drive after more good work from Maurdyk on the wing.

That was a nicely worked opener from Chelsea, that. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall with the long ball towards Joao Felix. His flick-on picked up by Mykhailo Mudryk, who then returned the favour as he set Felix up for the tap-in. That's quietened down the crowd a tad, and will hopefully settle Chelsea as they didn't look in control prior to scoring.

Chelsea show their class. Dewsbury-Hall plays a lofted ball through to Felix, who nods it onto Mudryk on the wing. The Ukrainian used his pace and trickery to drive into the box and find Felix with a low cross, which he dually dispatched. Simple as that. Are we sure this is a B team?

In the developing saga of the Panathinaikos fan with a laser pen, latest news is that they've been warned. We'll have more on this when we have it...

Mudryk tries to force the issue and has a shot from range but his effort sails well over the crossbar. It was worth a try and the effort had a good shape to it. Shame - for Chelsea anyway - that it was off target.

There is the odd cheeky Panathinaikos fan who's brought along a laser pen... have seen it shining on a few Chelsea players.

The home side are holding their own at the moment. It certainly feels like the crowd are playing their part in the early exchanges. No big opportunities to speak of just yet but these are some good early signs for them.

The confident start from the home side continues. Yes, Chelsea have managed to get their foot on the ball in the last few minutes but Panathinaikos continue to look a threat, increasingly on the break.

Game underway, that was a spectacular save by Filip Jorgensen, the type which will do him no harm as he tries to oust Robert Sanchez as Chelsea's No 1 under Enzo Maresca.

It's another attempt for the home side in the opening minutes. This time it's attacking midfielder Ounahi, who tries his luck from range after cutting inside on his right foot. Jorgensen isn't tested on this occasion but it's been a really good start from them.

Early chance for the home side as Jedvaj tests Jorgensen. The Chelsea stopper makes a fine save from the far-post header. That's just what the crowd needed to keep up their jubilant chants.

The visitors get the chance underway in Greece. Let's hope we've got a good game in store.

Both sets of players are out onto the pitch in Athens ahead of kick-off, which is now just moments away. Chelsea are obviously the favourites but Panathinaikos will be buoyed by the atmosphere and occasion tonight.

Spectators in the Athens Olympic Stadium have hoisted placards with number 32 as the stadium tannoy blares out David Bowie's 'Starman'. There's a heavy atmosphere in Greece tonight.

It's a big night for the former Atletico Madrid winger, who hasn't set the world alight since his return to Stamford Bridge.

When the game is close the [emotion] changes a bit but we try to prepare the game like we've always done.

The changes are also about sharing minutes. Tonight is a chance for them. Overall its something that we have done since we started. In these kind of games you have to manage the emotion especially with the tributes at the beginning of the game so it will be complicated from that aspect.

The Blues starting XI tonight have posed for a picture with a Chelsea shirt bearing the name and number of the former Panathinaikos defender. A nice touch from the visitors ahead of the clash.

Not long to go now until kick-off in Greece. The stars of both teams are out being put through their paces before the fun gets underway.

Panathinaikos's players are wearing George Baldock's number 32 on their backs while warming up. I can see a banner, too, which says he is 'αοανατοι', meaning 'immortal'. There will be black armbands worn during the game and a minute's silence beforehand.

It was shocking news not only for the club but for the whole world. It was very shocking for us and we're trying to fight for him on the pitch.

We have to keep going, we always try to think about how George will want us to be now. We're trying to play with him and for him and he'll be happy if we give 100 per cent on the pitch. We believe he is still with us as we try to achieve everything.

The Blues are facing Panathinaikos tonight for the very first time but they have had their fair share of trips to Greece. The Blues have won all five of their visits to the country in European competition.

Kick-off is less than 40 minutes away in Greece and the players are out onto the pitch getting ready for the clash.

Enzo Maresca is using the Conference League as an opportunity to give members of his bloated squad some minutes. He's also seeing it as a chance to give the club's gifted youngsters a taste of first-team action.

Four academy players, Lucas Bergstrom, Tyrique Geroge, Samuel Rak-Sayki, and Shumaira Mheuka, are among the travelling party tonight.

The former Sheffield United defender tragically died earlier this month while a Panathinaikos player. The club are playing their first home game tonight since his passing and they are set to pay tribute to their former player ahead of kick-off.

Chelsea supporters have been invited to participate in the display by collecting green sheets of paper when entering the stadium.

I don't think tomorrow’s environment is worse or better than Anfield last Sunday. So I think the players are quite good at dealing with that.

Panathinaikos have some good players. For instance, I was at Leicester last year and Tete was there two years ago, so I know [about him]. There are different kinds of players and they are good players.

Hello and welcome to Mail Sport's coverage of Chelsea's Europa Conference League clash against Panathinaikos at the Athens Olympic Stadium. The Blues are overwhelming favourites for this competition given their resources but they could face a tough test tonight in front of a raucous Greek crowd.

The atmosphere will no doubt be heightened with this being Panathinaikos' first home game since the tragic death of George Baldock earlier this month.
