A$AP Rocky’s proposed takeover of Tranmere Rovers has reportedly hit a stumbling block.

Following their relegations from League One in the 2019/20 campaign, The Rovers have failed to bounce back with promotion and appeared in need of a new lease of life being breathed into the club.

US rapper A$AP Rocky looked set to provide exactly that after it emerged that he was committed to being part of an investment group that would acquire a stake in the League Two outfit. However, that deal has now hit a snag.

A$AP Rocky is a member of a consortium led by Tacopina, who have tabled an offer worth £15million to purchase an 80 per cent stake of the club, therefore allowing the club’s current owners, Mark and Nicola Palios, remain at the club with a minority stake.

Talks are ongoing with the English Football League (EFL) over a deal, though the withdrawal of a key individual has thrown a spanner into the works. According to CityAM, one of Tacopina’s investors has decided to pull out of the deal.

The individual was set to provide 30 per cent of the funding for the takeover but walked away from negotiations last week after growing frustrated by the EFL’s approval process.

The investor reportedly did not fail the owners’ and directors’ test but they were reluctant to provide the EFL with all of the documentation and information that they were demanding to green-light the takeover.

Tacopina is therefore searching for a fresh investor who is willing to embark on the journey of rebuilding Tranmere alongside A$AP Rocky, the boyfriend of pop sensation Rihanna. The project is set to be made into a documentary to raise interest in the outfit.

The consortium does not expect to be short of interest though, with it previously being revealed that the group feel that Tranmere is being ‘undervalued’ and could develop significantly due to its close proximity to Liverpool. Celebrity endorsement is expected to play a key role in the revival of the club, in what is becoming a familiar theme up and down the Football League.

Wrexham have enjoyed a sensational rise due to the influence of owners, and Hollywood stars, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
