Luke Williams says he remains hopeful Swansea City can strike a deal for free agent Cyrus Christie.

The versatile defender has been training with the Swans since the last international break, and Williams has been impressed by his impact in recent weeks.

There's clearly an appetite to seal what would be a second spell in south Wales for Christie, whose agent just so happens to be a Swans legend.

“We are talking with Cyrus and to his agent, who is somebody we are very fond of, Mr [Wayne] Routledge," Williams said.

“He is communicating with us. We are trying to speak to Cyrus and Wayne to make sure we get two happy parties and then we’ll see.

“Cyrus has been great. Everyone who knows him before is really fond of him, so hopefully we can get something done.”

The Swans have enjoyed something of a breakthrough already this week, having sealed a new contract for striker Liam Cullen, whose previous deal was set to expire at the end of the season.

“I am really pleased," Williams said. "He is a really good player and a really good character and he is a product of the academy, so I am really happy.

“We know we have struggled to hit the back of the net as many times as we want but his all-round performance, what he has given to the squad, has been excellent.

“He has shown his commitment and we have shown it back.”

Williams is hopeful further contract breakthroughs will be made soon, with Ben Cabango and Harry Darling among those coming to the end of their contracts.

“I hope so… at least to do everything we can to try to get something sorted, bare minimum," he added.

“I am confident that will happen.”
