Birmingham City loanee George Hall is working his way back to peak fitness levels as he bids to break into the Walsall starting XI, boss and former Blues defender Mat Sadler has revealed. Hall joined the League Two high fliers on loan at the end of the summer transfer window but his familiar injury issue reared its head and he has been set back thus far.

Hall, 20, has experienced a disrupted campaign so far for the Saddlers, but he has been back in and around the first team more recently and he came off the bench in the impressive FA Cup win over Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

Indeed Sadler, who has plenty of competition for places in his high-performing starting XI, has revealed that Hall has also recently eclipsed his previous top speed during a training session - a sure sign that the attacker is on his way back to hitting his best physical levels and, hopefully, that he can begin to regularly impact the Walsall side.

"We're very lucky to have the eights that we have but we also know we've got someone who is very highly thought of in the game that has taken a little bit of time to get up to speed," Sadler told the Express and Star. "He reached his new top speed in training (last week). That might sound like a small thing but for me it's another indication of where he is at physically and psychologically with his body.

"We keep moving forward with him and he is a player that I'm looking forward to seeing how his career progresses. He's got some good players around him that are playing as well and I respect all of those players in those positions but we look forward to seeing more of him."
