Liverpool are being linked with a move for Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hugo Larsson ahead of the January transfer window. The Reds have just under two more months to wait before they are able to add new signings to their squad for the second half of the season.

Arne Slot has been enjoying an impressive start to his career as Liverpool's new head coach. The Reds had a quiet summer transfer window for the Dutchman's first season in charge, with sporting director Richard Hughes overseeing the deals to sign Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili - the latter spending the season at Valencia before moving to Anfield.

According to Sky Germany, Liverpool are among a host of clubs interested in signing Larsson in 2025, whether that be in January or next summer. The report claims the Reds will face competition from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur for the 20-year-old's signature.

It has been stated Liverpool are admirers of the midfielder and could be tempted to make a move to bring him to Anfield. However, the report suggests the Reds may find this difficult with Larsson recently signing a new contract with Frankfurt that keeps him at the Germany club until 2029.

The report suggests that Frankfurt did not include a release clause as part of the new deal for Larsson, who they first signed from Malmo in the summer of 2023. As a result, if Liverpool are to secure a deal, the club would need to reach an agreement over a fee with Frankfurt.

Larsson plays in several roles in midfield but is often found in the number six position. Liverpool were known to be looking to sign a player in that position in the summer with Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi a target.

Since the Spain international opted not to move to Anfield, Slot has used Ryan Gravenberch - who joined Liverpool in a £40million deal from Bayern Munich in 2023 - in the deeper midfield role more often than not this season. Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones have also been deployed in the role, but Gravenberch has played the full 90 minutes in all 10 of Liverpool's Premier League games this season, as well as the three in the Champions League.

Slot clearly believes Gravenberch is well-suited to the number six role, but it remains to be seen if the club continues to pursue a specialist midfielder for that role for the long term. If the Reds were to sign Larsson, it would give Gravenberch additional competition, as well as give the Netherlands international the opportunity to succeed in another role, potentially alongside the current Frankfurt star.
