Manchester United secured a 2-0 win against POAK thanks to a brace from Amad.

United were determined to get their first European victory in more than a year on the board and broke the deadlock minutes into the second half through a brilliant header from Amad.

The youngster has lost his starting place in the team in recent weeks but responded to that disappointment by delivering a man-of-the-match performance at Old Trafford.

Amad scored again in the 77th minute, winning possession and lashing home, and he confirmed after the game that he was "alright," despite appearing up to pick up a foot injury.

Tonight's win marked Ruud van Nistelrooy's penultimate game in caretaker charge and incoming Ruben Amorim will officially begin work following Sunday's match against Leicester City.

Christian Eriksen, Mason Mount and Antony were also welcomed back into the squad after injury.

Amad reveals Van Nistelrooy's plan in United training

Amad believes United practising their pressing in training contributed to his excellent second goal against PAOK on Thursday night.

Before facing PAOK, United had played FC Twente, FC Porto and Fenerbahce in the Europa League league phase and had drawn all three games, meaning a victory was needed.

The first half was low on quality, but Amad was a bright spark and opened the scoring just minutes into the second half when finding the back of the net with a superb header.

Amad scored again in the 77th minute, winning the ball in PAOK's half before scoring from the edge of the box, and was named man of the match for his brilliant performance.

Amad gives Amorim what he will want at United

The suggestion that Antony merited playing time ahead of Amad on account of his training form was a suitable enough incentive for Manchester United's matchwinner. Amad scored twice against PAOK.

Having been frozen out by Erik ten Hag, Amad is warming up again. In his cameos before his recall, he injected the United attack with impetus. A first start in seven games elicited a first goal since August to jolt spectators from their slumber. His second was even better.

Abdul Rahman Baba got away with fouling Amad inside the area in the first half. Amad got away from him in the second, pick-pocketing the former Chelsea misfit and lashing the ball beyond the goalkeeper from outside the area.

The only pity was Amad's night ended early as he was forced off through injury. He was mobile enough to walk off the pitch and remained in the dugout rather than limping towards the tunnel. He embarked on a lap of honour at full-time barefoot. The majority back at Old Trafford on Sunday will hope Amad starts again.

United player ratings as Amad superb but three get 4/10

ndre Onana

Made the only memorable contribution of the first half by tipping Camara's shot over and denied Tarik Tissoudali an equaliser. 7

Noussair Mazraoui

Switched to right back after having his best performance at left back against Chelsea and had little trouble yet did little attacking. 6

Victor Lindelof

Recalled on rotation grounds and could not even impose himself against PAOK. Unconvincing but the goal made his night a lot easier. 6

Jonny Evans

Might have benefited from starting next to a regular centre half and his wayward header gave Camara a sighter. Helped keep a clean sheet. 6

Diogo Dalot

Back at left back and his poor performance level dipped out of position. Given a breather after an hour as he made way for Lisandro Martinez. 4

Hojlund through on goal but he was offside - he's struggled to be involved tonight.

83' - MUN 2-0 PAO - Great response from Amad

How do you respond to losing your starting place in the team? Amad has endured a tough few weeks but you take your chance when you get it. It was a talismanic performance from the 22-year-old tonight. He was determined to win that ball and the finish was wonderful.

79' - MUN 2-0 PAO - Amad replaced

Mount ON and Amad OFF, and the youngster receives a huge standing ovation.

He is the man of the match tonight and deserves all the plaudits.

76' - MUN 2-0 PAO - GOAL! 2-0 UNITED! (Amad)

That is a fantastic goal from Amad, who wins possession and scores from the edge of the box.

He showed great determination to win the ball and quality to finish.

72' - MUN 1-0 PAO - PAOK enjoying the ball

The Greek side are enjoying more of the ball now and United are dropping deeper...

68' - MUN 1-0 PAO - Another goal is needed

Another goal would kill this game and ensure United's first win in Europe this season.

64' - MUN 1-0 PAO - Three substitutions

Martinez, Eriksen and Rashford ON.

Dalot, Ugarte and Garnacho OFF.

60' - MUN 1-0 PAO - Garnacho wants a penalty

Garnacho wants a penalty but not given again. The Amad appeal was turned away when it should have been awarded but Garnacho kicked to PAOK defender, so right decision.

58' - MUN 1-0 PAO - Amad shot saved

Amad comes close to scoring again, running into the box, but his low shot is saved.

55' - MUN 1-0 PAO - Ugarte booking

Ugarte booked for a clumsy foul... That's the first card of the game for United.

53' - MUN 1-0 PAO - We have a goal

Thank goodness we have a goal. Amad just went walkabout in the middle and Van Nistelrooy was urging him to come wide again. That’s good from the coach, not cutting the goalscorer any slack.

It was an adroit header from Amad and he’s just about the most popular goalscorer there could have been.

50' - MUN 1-0 PAO - GOAL! 1-0 UNITED! (Amad)

Amad has been United's best player tonight and he opens the scoring with a back post header.

Fernandes picked him out with a great cross and Amad found the opposite corner.

48' - MUN 0-0 PAO - This is better

It's been a bright start from United in the second half and this is already much better.

45' - MUN 0-0 PAO - Back under way

Here we go for the second half... Hopefully Van Nistelrooy's team talk works a treat.

HALF-TIME! United 0-0 PAOK

That's the whistle for the break here.

That was a dull first half and it lacked quality.

42' - MUN 0-0 PAO - This has been poor

United have lacked intensity and need to improve when play resumes for the second half.

39' - MUN 0-0 PAO - Great save Onana

Brilliant save from Onana to deny an opener for PAOK, who broke swiftly and got a shot away.

37' - MUN 0-0 PAO - Too much going on?

There’s been a lot of flexibility and positional rotation in this United set-up tonight, but it almost looks like too much is going on. There isn’t a clear structure, nobody is quite sure where they should be and where the next pass is. It’s been confusing and it’s made for a poor game and one in which the visitors will feel they are well in.

34' - MUN 0-0 PAO - United need Amorim

Amorim can’t come in quickly enough. This is nothing against Van Nistelrooy, who’s only been in charge for ten days. United were a tough watch long before he returned to Manchester and these players need to change for the new head coach. Amorim should not compromise anything with them. They’ve got to prove themselves as much as he does and one suspects he has the right mentality to do so.

31' - MUN 0-0 PAO - Lovely cross from Garnacho

Great ball from Garnacho across the box but PAOK cleared the danger with a superb recovery.

29' - MUN 0-0 PAO - Fernandes getting into it

“Who are these aimless idiots just wandering around?” I just asked, appalled by some hospitality guests incapable of finding their seat. “That’s the players,” quipped Tyrone. That can be his intro unless things improve.

We’re nearly 30 minutes in and Amad and Casemiro have been United’s best players. Ugarte drew some applause from Van Nistelrooy and has done fine but Hojlund and Garnacho have been tepid. Maybe Fernandes is warming up after that nifty pass in for Casemiro.

26' - MUN 0-0 PAO - Amad catching the eye

That pass was Amad’s first mistake of the night and he looks in the mood to prove a point as to his lack of game time recently. He was seething when Antony came on ahead of him in Istanbul and you can see why. He’s been excellent throughout this half, should have had a penalty and looks United’s most dangerous forward in what has so far been a below-par performance.

23' - MUN 0-0 PAO - Casemiro appreciation

United supporters are chanting Casemiro’s name. For all his shortcomings over the past 15 months, commitment has not been one of them and he has enjoyed a mini revival since that horrendous half against Liverpool on September 1.

Dalot is not having a good night so far. PAOK haven’t looked like exploiting him but United’s forwards (apart from Amad) have been just as toothless. Even Hojlund’s header on target was deflected. DONE
