Ruud stays unbeaten

Onana: 'We want Van Nistelrooy to stay'
100 per cent [we want Ruud van Nistelrooy to stay]. He is a very good guy and a very good coach. He has so much experience and he has done amazing since he has been here.
We've had him for a few days as a head coach and the players are happy but it's not something we can decide. The club made a decision and we have to accept because they have the final decision.

Van Nistelorooy: 'Diallo was the difference'
It was a pretty poor first half if I'm being nice. The second half was way better. That was clear. He [Amad Diallo] made a difference today, because of his goals but he was very sharp.
Well done to him, good game. Positionally we weren't good in the first half. We were much better at that in the second half. He has been incredible in training, he always trains well and is asking me to do more.
It didn't happen enough for him. In the second half we were better in positions but some of the crosses didn't come for him.
I said to the lads before the game that it was a year ago since the last European win at Old Trafford. We couldn't believe it. It was time to turn it around, build and change. It's a big period at the club.
For me, it was important to get results. I can only be happy with the performance that the players put in. I enjoy it but Sunday is another one and I'm so focused on doing that so I'm not thinking of what is next.

'United were hanging on a little'
They had to win that game, they are not in a great position in the Europa League as it stands. Not the most convincing of performances but they obviously got the goal with Diallo.
They were hanging on a little bit, maybe previous games made it more nervous. Diallo then got the second goal with a fantastic strike to kill the game.

Diallo: 'We showed we are one of the best teams'
It's been a long time since we won in Europe. Today we showed why we are one of the best teams. It was important to win today.
It is important to score every time. This season I have been unlucky so I am happy to score two today. But the most important thing was to win. I like to celebrate with the fans and make people happy.
Since he has arrived at Manchester United he has been very important for everyone.

'Good night for Blues' B team'
Chelsea basically declared at half-time. They got a couple more – again, two by two – but they didn't need to exert themselves here.
Good night all around for the Blues' B team, with minutes being given to academy lads in Tyrique George and Samuel Rak-Sakyi, handed his debut as a substitute.

'Diallo's goals paper over cracks'
Amad Diallo will grab the headlines for his two-goal performance but it rather papered over the cracks of another average performance from United. They laboured for long periods here before securing a first win in Europe for 380 days.
There is certainly an ocean of room for improvement when Ruben Amorim officially starts work on Monday. For now, we should not begrudge Diallo the credit he deserves – or Van Nistelrooy after getting that elusive win in Europe and maintaining a three-match unbeaten run since stepping in as caretaker manager.

'A goal Amad deserved'
Of course, it’s 5ft8’ Amad Diallo getting the opening goal via a header. He’s just given a fist pump in the direction of Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who put faith in him tonight from the start. It’s no more than his performance has deserved - I just didn’t predict it would go in off his head!

'Underwhelming from United'
It’s been an underwhelming performance from United so far. Worth remembering that this starting line-up cost in excess of £400m to assemble, and they are up against a PAOK side that needed to overcome Shamrock Rovers in a play-off to reach this stage of the competition.
United should be making light work of teams like these but – just like FC Twente in their other Europa League tie at home – it has been heavy going. The Greek fans certainly seem pleased with that they have seen so far at a subdued Old Trafford.
20:32

'I’ve seen this movie before'
Can we get one of the goals from the Chelsea game? Pretty please... It’s funny how often you can cover a Manchester United game and realise you’re 30 minutes in and very little has happened.
Rasmus Hojlund’s header was the best chance but it’s gone a touch flat and attacking their away support PAOK are gaining more and more confidence. I’ve seen this movie before… and it isn’t great viewing for United fans, trust me.

20:12

'United started brightly'
Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte need to decide quickly which one is going to occupy the pocket of the PAOK No 10 because Mady Camara just had the freedom of Manchester on the edge of the box before getting a shot - deflected - off.
United have started bright here which has been a theme under Van Nistelrooy but I spoke of PAOK optimism earlier and it still stands. This United midfield can be had - and we’ve seen it already. A warning if nothing more so far.
20:11

'A whirlwind'
Noah's time-wasting started within 30 seconds, their goalkeeper milking an innocuous tumbling over. But blimey, since then, it's been a whirlwind.
Noah could have even taken the lead when Goncalo Gregorio blasted a shot at Filip Jorgensen. And then, Joao Felix missed an open goal for Chelsea after being teed up by Tyrique George!
20:02

'Massive cheer for George'
Massive cheer for Tyrique George, the teenager who was only told he'd be making his full debut for Chelsea at 5pm today. Nice moment for him, and tonight's captain Enzo Fernandez has just asked him to be at the centre of the team photo, holding the club crest. Good from Fernandez, that.
19:58

'Over to you, Amad'
Opportunity knocks for Amad Diallo tonight. He had a face like thunder I recall from my trip to Istanbul when Antony was brought on ahead of him… Well, he’s in from the start tonight and all I’ve heard for a lot of the week from fans is ’start Amad’.
He’s got to back it up tonight and try to end the debate over whether or not he’s a regular starter for United. Over to you, Amad…
19:53

'PAOK fans are optimistic'
I don’t blame the PAOK fans that travelled in on the tram with me from arriving here at Old Trafford optimistic. United started the day 22nd in the Europa League table and are winless through their first three games.
I was there in Porto (3-3) and in Istanbul (1-1) when United looked easy to get at. PAOK have performed even worse than United so far in Europe but they arrive with no fear.
Based on everything I’ve seen so far, who can blame them?
19:29

'An interesting call by van Nistelrooy'
Interesting call by van Nistelrooy to change both centre backs this evening. It looks increasingly as though the Dutchman won’t have a role to paly under Ruben Amorim, so even more reason for him to want to sign off with two wins against PAOK tonight and Leicester here on Sunday.
You couldn’t have blamed him for going strong by playing De Ligt and Martinez rather than bringing in Lindelof and Evans. The selection of Amad Diallo on the right is no surprise given that Rashford was seen training with a fitness coach at Carrington yesterday before joining the main group.
It’s still a United side more than capable of beating PAOK who qualified via a play-off against Shamrock Rovers and have one point from their three games so far.

'You can tell how big of an occasion it is for Noah'
Noah’s players are suited and booted as they have an early walk on the pitch. You can tell how big of an occasion it is for them by how many pictures and videos are being taken.
A few facts about our visitors: Noah are indeed named after the biblical tale. They’re only seven years old. Their season began all the way back on July 11 when they played their first of four qualifying rounds to make it into the Conference League. Their players are all on less than £5,000 a week.

Murphy: 'United can't play the same way as Sporting
It depends how you play the 3-4-3. You can play it pragmatically or can play it offensively. They've got lots of good players at Manchester United, international players, so they should be able to adapt and play all different systems.
But if he tries to mirror the Sporting team as it is now, they'll have problems. That’s because they play a high line, they go after teams, they push up and they dominate games and they score lots of goals and they make lots of chances.
Now if United play that way, I think they'll struggle because they haven't got great legs at the back. You think of Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire with Leny Yoro injured.
18:49

'It feels like a gamble'
I totally get freshening things up but that feels a gamble at centre back to take out Lisandro Martinez AND Matthjis De Ligt.
Jonny Evans has been a more than able deputy of late but taking out both first choice centre backs in what is a must-win game? Bold from Van Nistelrooy to say the least.
18:40
18:34

'There should be at least five goals tonight'
If Chelsea’s B team don’t score at least five goals tonight against Armenian side Noah – be honest, had you heard of them? – then I’d be surprised.
I’m expecting to see Joao Felix at No 10 running the show, just as he did when they beat Panathinaikos last month. Hopefully they can get a few goals up and give some minutes to the academy lads.
Tyrique George and Samuel Rak-Sakyi are two who I definitely know will be in the squad at Stamford Bridge.

'van Nistelrooy will want to maintain unbeaten record'
After Ruben Amorim’s rousing Champions League win over Manchester City in his last home game as Sporting Lisbon boss on Tuesday, this feels more low-key as Manchester United prepare to welcome their new head coach on Monday.
Even so, Ruud van Nistelrooy will want to maintain his unbeaten record as interim manager with a win against PAOK, and United certainly need one after slipping to 22nd place in the Europa League table with three draws against Twente, Porto and Fenerbahce.
Despite their indifferent start, United have a shot at winning this competition and even more so if Amorim takes over in a more healthy position.
That is likely to be the case with United up against a PAOK side showing two defeats and one draw in Europe since qualifying with a play-off victory over Shamrock Rovers.
