Newcastle United player ratings as colossus star scoops 10/10 while two more score 9/10

Newcastle United's Brazilian ace Joelinton looks back to his brilliant best after a monster display

Newcastle United ran out 3-1 winners against in-form Nottingham Forest to pick up their first away win since mid-September.

The goals flowed for Newcastle after a rocky first half but a ruthless second period provided the platform for one the most satisfying road trip wins of the season.

The home side nudged ahead after winning a free-kick when Joe Willock conceded a free-kick high on the left after fouling Anthony Elanga. The Sweden international then whipped the ball into the box and centre-back Murillo beat Joelinton to the ball before heading home.

The game was tied on 54 minutes gone when a Gordon corner was aimed into the danger zone with ex-striker Chris Wood seeing the ball bounce off him into the path of Alexander Isak who swept home. United went ahead for the first time on 72 minutes.

Sandro Tonali's pass allowed Isak to spray it wide to the right for Joelinton before he elegantly cut on to his left foot and curled it majestically beyond Sels with the ball clipping the post on the way in. Newcastle sealed the game late on as Tonali slipped in Harvey Barnes before he scored his fourth of the season.

Here's how the players rated overall:

Nick Pope 8

A composed figure as he withstood pressure in both halves.

Tino Livramento 8

Took one in the face early on but was on hand to battle and scrap throughout.

Fabian Schar 8

Set the example with a dogged display.

Dan Burn 9

Stood up to the fight when Newcastle needed a warrior. Only blot in copy book was yellow card that rules him out against West Ham.

Lewis Hall 8

Another fine display in the second half from England's latest cap. Put in six crosses overall.

Bruno Guimaraes 8

Found the answers in the second half and was unlucky with bending shot.

Sean Longstaff 8

May not always get the headlines but this was a top notch display. A fully committed effort in midfield.

Joelinton 10

The man was immense as he scored a wonderful goal and tackled like his life depended on it! A dominant aerial display too.

Joe Willock 8

Caused problems from the get go before running himself into the ground.

Anthony Gordon 8

A thorn in the side of Forest. Went off with a knock.

Alexander Isak 9

An assist and a goal. Led the charge in the second half, great effort.

Subs

Sandro Tonali 8 (for Willock 69)

Had a hand in two goals after coming on. Made his case in exactly the right way after being benched.

Harvey Barnes (for Gordon 80)
