The Harvey Barnes 'problem' at Newcastle and 15 minutes of magic that saved Magpies

Eddie Howe is facing a crucial decision for the game against West Ham and could have to bench Harvey Barnes again

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe admits he is finding it difficult to keep Harvey Barnes happy this season.

The left winger has netted four goals this term and notched one assist so far but could be back on the bench against West Ham when Newcastle are next in action in the Premier League later this month. Barnes scored the game sealing goal in the 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday but could struggle to get past Joelinton and Anthony Gordon this term.

Newcastle chief Howe was delighted with the ex-Leicester City star after he showed a great attitude despite being benched again. Howe said: "Harvey Barnes did what he does.

"He's an outstanding player. Trying to find room for him in the team is something that I am conscious of. I'm really pleased he got that goal - I thought it was a fantastic finish.

"We need our attacking players to contribute goals and Alex [Isak] has done that in the past few weeks with massive moments, then Joelinton and Harvey Barnes pop up with moments too. We know we have players who can make that difference and I'm really pleased with that side of our game."

Newcastle had to fight from a 1-0 deficit at the City Ground and admitted that the 15 minute interval was a busy time as he and his coaches made tweaks behind the scenes. He said: "We had work to do at half-time but credit to the players because the second half was up there with our best performances this season.

"It was difficult but we knew it would be. They are a difficult team to play against because they don't concede many chances and you're left fearing the worse when you go behind."
