KRIS BOYD rolled back the years at the Masters with some typical predatory penalty box play.

And the Rangers striker re-visited an old celebration at the P&J Arena too.

And he was all smiles back to what he did best in two spells at Gers and Kilmarnock

The SunSport columnist and Sky Sports pundit kicked off the Masters Cup football tournament in Aberdeen with a goal three minutes into the opener between Gers and Aberdeen.

And Boyd started with a smile with some banter in the stands.

Things soon turned serious with silverware at stake at the veterans' tournament, featuring the likes of Charlie Mulgrew, Eoin Jess and Lee Miller plus Portuguese double act Pedro Mendes and Bruno Alves.

Dundee United's John Rankin BLASTED some referee decisions in an angry interview and Mulgrew even turned the air blue with an X-rated slip live on TV.

Jess and Alves were also involved in an angry clash during the opening game between the Gers and the hosts - and they'd meet again in the final with the trophy staying in the north-east.

Alves himself was a late addition to the Gers line-up.

He was only called in after Ibrox hero Jermain Defoe pulled out at the last minute.

It was a star-studded event with favourites from yesteryear turning out, shown live on BBC Scotland.

Rangers recreated their prolific strike partnership of Nacho Novo and Boyd and it was the former Kilmarnock and Middlesbrough man who notched their first of the evening with a close range tap in.

And he was all smiles at scoring and re-creating his famous 'belly' celebration he shared with Dons fans back in 2018.

Kris Boyd names his Player of the Year in NOVEMBER and says Clement's Rangers concerns are far from over

He first 'performed' it at Pittodrie, cradling his stomach after a goal in March.

At that stage he was up front in his second spell at Kilmarnock and scored another November goal against the Reds too.

And he was even more exaggerated as he responded to jeers and taunts from the crowd by puffing out his cheeks and mimicking a massive belly after finding the net in front of them.

Six years later - almost to the day - he was at it again.

The smiling SunSport columnist was back to his goal-scoring best

While he was game for a laugh the Dons, and their fans, had the last one by winning the trophy in a rematch of the opening game.

Goalkeeper Joe Lewis gave Aberdeen the lead in the final - by kicking the ball from hand over his opposite number Roy Carroll.

But the match went to penalties eventually edged by the 'home' team in the five-a-side tournament.

Graham Dorrans' spot-kick hit the crossbar to hand the Dons the win.

Dundee United finished third in the group with Celtic bottom, each without a win to their name.
