Luis Palma goes clutch for Honduras before Celtic star sees things turn nasty with Mexico manager left covered in BLOOD

A clutch Palma performance was overshadowed by a horrendous incident at full-time

Luis Palma's brace for Honduras against Mexico was overshadowed by a horrendous incident that saw the latter's manager hit by a can from the crowd that left him bleeding.

Celtic star Palma scored both goals for the hosts in the first leg of the CONCAF Nations League quarter-final, netting on 64 and 83 minutes to take his goal tally to three in 17 caps. But on what should have been a night for celebration for Honduras, it ended up being marred with a dark cloud following the events of the full-time whistle.

Away fans at the Estadio Francisco Morazan threw objects onto the pitch at the end of the game, with Mexico head coach Javier Aguirre left with blood streaming down his face after reportedly being struck by a can. Incredibly, the 65-year-old - who led his country to glory in the Gold Cup in 2009 - was initially unphased by the cut and walked over to Honduras boss Reinaldo Rueda to shake hands as the blood started to appear from the top of his head.

According to TUDN, veteran coach Aguirre needed four stitches to close the wound, but was able to conduct his post-match press conference with no issues. Mexico will hope to overturn the two goal deficit when they welcome Honduras to the Estadio Nemesio Diez in the return fixture on Tuesday.
