Conor Gallagher leaves girlfriend's family 'unimpressed' with first England goal

Conor Gallagher scored his first goal for England in their win over the Republic of Ireland, but his Irish partner Aine May Kennedy joked that her family were "not impressed"

Conor Gallagher scored his first England goal as the Three Lions beat the Republic of Ireland 5-0 on Sunday, but his partner's family were "not impressed".

Gallagher is dating Irish model Aine May Kennedy and she joked about her family's reaction to his goal while congratulating the Atletico Madrid star on his strike. In a post on her Instagram story, Kennedy wrote: "First England international goal.

"So proud of you. You dream of these achievements and you never ever stop pushing yourself." She then followed it up by joking: "Not sure all my Irish family are too impressed."

Gallagher was not the only England goalscorer whose family had split loyalties on Sunday, with debutant Taylor Harwood-Bellis engaged to Roy Keane's daughter Leah. Keane, who made 67 appearances for the Republic of Ireland, was working as a pundit for ITV at the game and admitted it was "bittersweet" when he analysed Harwood-Bellis' goal.

The defender netted England's fifth with a thumping header and Keane said of the goal: "It's almost as good as Kane's goal. It's bittersweet for me, this."

Presenter Mark Pougatch then explained to viewers that Harwood-Bellis was Keane's future son-in-law, before the Manchester United legend joked: "It's not done and dusted yet! Listen, things can change really quickly in the Keane household!"

He then added: "It's good for him to make his debut and he's a bit of a goal threat. He's a nice kid and his family have done a really great job."

Reflecting on his goalscoring debut, Harwood-Bellis said: "It is a great day for me and my family. It's every young kid's dream to make their debut, and to score the goal is magical. I had a few hints yesterday that I would be needed at some point, when I got the nod to come on I was over the moon.

"There's always a pathway and us young ones, we do believe we can get into the seniors. We know the door is open if we take our chances, I've got to thank Lee [Carsley] for calling me up and I have repaid him with a nice goal.

"Playing for my country at every level is something I take such pride in. To play for the seniors is something you dream of, it is the pinnacle of football, to do it and score is some feeling."
