Wrexham's Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are set to spend big once again in January, according to a club director.

Actors Reynolds and McElhenney have overseen a meteoric rise at the Welsh club since taking them over for around £1.8million in November 2020, recently overseeing back-to-back promotions.

Having won the National League in 2022, they returned to the Football League for the first time since 2008, immediately winning promotion from League Two, coming second in the division last term.

Now, they are sitting pretty in League One too, currently third in the table - two points off second-place Birmingham and four behind leaders Wycombe.

It appears they are once again in a promotion battle, this time to earn a third consecutive promotion into the Championship, where they could face off against some seriously high-status clubs.

And the Hollywood duo are prepared to bankroll the club again in the winter window, according to director Shaun Harvey.

'Rob and Ryan have always supported Phil's [Parkinson, club manager'] ambition,' Harvey told Wales Online. 'We will be active in the transfer market during January, because we're in a position of strength.

'If we go any further forward from where we are now, we get promoted, and that is the objective. It's difficult to say what and where, because there's still six weeks to go before the window opens. Then it is a case of who's available, and who will actually strengthen us.

'We've had a policy of trying to ensure that we sign players, not just for this division, but for the next division as well. Fortunately, it's easier now with the higher we get in the leagues, because players never really wanted to drop down.

'We had to pay for that privilege and we called it the non-league tax. Where we are now is that there are players that would come to play for Wrexham in League One that would not play for any other club in that division. That's what we've been able to create so I suspect we'll be busy.'

The Wrexham squad has been revamped since the takeover four years ago, with some big-name players joining the club even while they were in non-league.

Former Manchester United and England goalkeeper Ben Foster joined while they were in the fifth-tier, while former Premier League stars Steven Fletcher and James McClean are also on their books.

Should they earn promotion to the Championship, several members of their squad will be third-tier ready, while Reynolds and McElhenney are evidently ready to spend again.

Wrexham's players have been treated to Las Vegas trips after promotions in last two seasons

Wrexham have become synonymous with their United States-based parties over the last two years, with players flown out by the owners after achieving the respective promotions.

In May, players celebrated their promotion with a wild party in Las Vegas for the second year running after returning to League One for the first time in 19 years, with images and videos of the celebrations surfacing online.

The year before, players were spotted throwing huge pool parties while soaking up the sun alongside their famous chairman McElhenney and his wife Kaitlin Olson, though Reynolds stayed away from the action.

The Deadpool star joked that he would be sending the squad on a 'meditation retreat' the following year after wild celebrations appeared online, but it appears he caved in following another year of success.
