Ex-Celtic star Aiden McGeady opens up on Ayr exit under Scott Brown as he reveals ‘it didn’t end the way I’d have liked’

AIDEN McGEADY admits his time at Ayr United working alongside former Celtic pal Scott Brown didn't end the way he would have liked.
McGeady worked in an unusual dual role at Somerset Park which combined playing duties with a technical manager role.
But Graham Mathie arrived as director of football and McGeady departed without a first team appearance to his name since April - with his former Hoops team-mate Scott Brown taking the team in another direction.
Speaking to the Let's be Frank podcast, McGeady said: "It was a strange one.
"We were mates at Celtic. We got on well and played together for a long time.
"As everything happens in football you lose contact with people then we reconnected at Ayr.
"With Scott, in terms of his playing squad, he wanted certain things from it that I don't think he thought that I could bring him.
"Quality and stuff was never in question, how I was as a footballer.
"It was more running stats, distance covered in games.
"Everybody is their own man, that is his management style and he wants to go down that route.
"That is how he sees his team playing, it is entirely fine.
"In terms of the other stuff whenever I wanted to do anything, like coaching or taking things after training, there was never any problem with that.
"Listen, it was fine.
"It didn't end the way I wanted it to end but football very rarely does."
McGeady has also revealed he is condiering a career change as he ponders his future.
And he has told how former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan tried to sign him for another club years after their infamous Parkhead bust-ups.
