Chris Davies issues apology after Birmingham City 'a million miles away' at Shrewsbury
Chris Davies was speaking after Birmingham City's second League One defeat of the season, this time at struggling Shrewsbury Town
Chris Davies has apologised to Birmingham City’s fans following his team’s 3-2 defeat to Shrewsbury Town.
Blues wilted in Shropshire to lose to the side that started the day at the foot of the League One table and have now failed to win in three league matches. The Blues faithful showed their discontent at full-time at the Croud Meadow and Davies began his post-match press conference with an apology.
“It was incredibly disappointing,” said Davies. “It was the sort of game where I can only apologise to the fans that came and watched us today. To play in the first half in the manner that we did, to concede the goals that we did, was a million miles away from what’s acceptable and a million miles away from the standards I’ve set since I’ve come into the club. I was extremely disappointed to see that.

“We got the goal before half-time and you think we can kick on from there, and we concede another really poor goal. From our point of view, it’s an extremely poor day and I can only apologise to all the supporters that came out to support us today because that was nowhere near good enough.”
Aaron Pierre’s opener came via another sloppy attempt to defend a set piece from Blues and Shrewsbury scored two counter-attacking goals through John Marquis and Tom Bloxham. In addition to their defensive lapses, Blues failed to work Shrewsbury goalkeeper Toby Savin often enough.
Davies added: “There was a lot missing. We were too passive, we weren’t aggressive enough, we weren’t decisive enough in key defensive moments. To concede the goals that we conceded, in the fashion we did, by not being decisive and being too passive, you’re never going to win football matches that way.”
