Liverpool U19s continue their UEFA Youth League campaign this afternoon when they take on Real Madrid U19s at the Academy in Kirkby.

Kicking-off at 3pm, our Reds reporters Paul Gorst and Ian Doyle will be in place to bring you the team news and build-up to the match and then updates once the action gets under way.

Liverpool ran out 4-1 winners at home to their Bayer Leverkusen counterparts last time out. Kieran Morrison, Carter Pinnington, Keyrol Figueroa and Trent Kone-Doherty got the goals as Barry Lewtas’ side moved onto seven points from a possible 12.

The young Reds had previously lost 3-1 at RB Leipzig, beat Bologna 2-1 back on Merseyside, and ground out a 0-0 draw at AC Milan.

So can they make it back-to-back victories today? With the likes of Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha set to start, they will be hopeful against a Madrid side who have won two and drawn two of their first four matches and who are coached by former Liverpool full-back Alvaro Arbeloa.

Full-time: Liverpool U19s 0-1 Real Madrid U19s

That early goal has done for Liverpool.

They now stand 20th in the 36-team league with the top 22 progressing.

The young Reds finish at Girona in a fortnight. They'll need that one to be sure of going through.

Four minutes additional time

Not long for Liverpool to pull this one out of the fire.

Another Liverpool booking

Pinnington goes into the book for a late one.

Not long for Liverpool to find an equaliser. They've had a few corners but that's about it in the last 15 minutes.

Liverpool booking

Misciur becomes the first Liverpool player cautioned after taking exceptoion to Aguado of Real Madrid overdoing it a bit with the theatrics.

  • Share

Shot saved

Ngumoha works the goalkeeper after beating two, jinking inside and getting the shot off.

  • Share

Another Liverpool chance

This time Ngumoha gets into space inside the area and crosses low to the far post where Davidson connects but it is deflected wide.

  • Share

Liverpool change

First substitution of the afternoon as Young replaces Esdaille.

It means Davidson goes to right-back and Morrison drops into number 10, Nyoni into midfield and Young goes on up top.

Yanez close

Yanez goes close to 2-0 with a similar strike to the one that brought the only goal so far. Just wide of the goalkeeper's left-hand post.

  • Share

Should be 2-0

Real Madrid's No.9 Barroso has to make it 2-0! Ball into the box, free header abut six yards out but he doesn't connect properly. Liverpool survive.

  • Share

Miscuir saves

Good save Miscuir to deny Real Madrid making it 2-0. Tipped away for a corner. Chances at both ends.

  • Share

Big miss

Kone-Donerty has to score! Misses a header from close range. Keeper saves it, had all the space the other side to equalise. Big miss.

  • Share

Another chance

Ngumoha gets the ball in from the left, Kone-Doherty meets it at the far post but his header is saved.

So close again. Much better from Liverpool.

Off the line for Liverpool

So close to the equaliser.

Esdaille beats the Real Madrid goalkeeper to a ball inside the area, it bounces out to Laffey on the edge of the area and his lob is headed off the line by Navascues

Second half under way

We go again. And it isn't getting any warmer.

  • Share

Half time

First real chance for Liverpool but Ngumoha slices it wide from about 12 yards after Real Madrid failed to clear a ball into the box. And that's half time.

Half-time: Liverpool U19s 0-1 Real Madrid U19s

A poor start from Liverpool going behind after only three minutes and it affected them for a good while.

However, they have played their way back into the game in the second quarter but aren't really creating many chances.

An intriguing second half awaits.

Fine save from Misciur

Big chance for Real Madrid to double their lead.

From a Liverpool free-kick, the Spaniards break and Valdepenas is played clean through only for Misciur to stand tall and save.

Good spell

Liverpool's good spell goes on without any major, clear-cut chances to tell you about. It's better than they started the game, though. Let's see if they can carve open Madrid before the break...

  • Share

Liverpool chance

Mild chance for home team. Ngumoha is sent racing down the left my Morrison and his cross finds Kone-Doherty, but the keeper is close by and ends up claiming before the winger decides what he wants to do.

  • Share

Better from Liverpool

Liverpool ae been better in these last five minutes or so. Rio Ngumoha is starting to get on the ball and they are threatening without creating anything clear cut.

  • Share

Liverpool problem

Halfway through the first half and Liverpool are now enjoying more possesion.

However, they are not really threatening up front.

Young had started several games up top but Morrison is doing it this time, and it really isn't his natural game.

  • Share

Settling down

Liverpool are starting to get a little bit more of the ball with Kone-Doherty the most lively.

However it just isn't really working at present overall going forward.

  • Share

Yanez lively

Goalscorer Daniel Yanez looks a player. He took his goal superbly and has just danced inside a couple of challenges and a handful of drag backs to set up another chance. Playing off the right but left footed, he is one to watch here on the early evidence.

Visitors on top

The visitors are well on top in the early going. Already 1-0 up and the young Reds are sturggling to make any in-roads in the final third.

  • Share

Real Madrid on top

Liverpool have barely had a touch of the ball so far.

It has all been Real Madrid, whose players mostly look quite tall.

  • Share

Liverpool go behind

A first proper attack and Liverpool are in arrears after only three minutes.

They don't really clear their lines and the ball is put back into the area where Yanez turns and shoots into the corner.

Avoidable, really.

GOAL! Liverpool U19s 0-1 Real Madrid U19s (Yanez)

Not the best start.

  • Share

Under way

It's all kicked off here at the Academy.

Liverpool U19s are in their usual red, Real Madrid in their usual white. The sun is setting so it makes for a nice scene at the moment.

It will be flipping freezing in the second half, like.
