Gareth Bale reveals what he's doing now in retirement in rare TV appearance

The Wales legend made a rare TV appearance on TNT Sports on Wednesday night

Gareth Bale says he's grateful for the time he can spend with his children following his retirement from professional football - and jokes he's now able spend even more time on the golf course.

Bale called time on a glittering career at the age of 33, shortly after captaining his country at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He hung up his boots having amassed a number of honours, including five Champions Leagues with Real Madrid.

The Welshman has largely kept away from the media gaze since hanging his boots up, but made a rare TV appearance on Wednesday night as a pundit for TNT Sports as Liverpool faced Real Madrid at Anfield.

As well as looking back on his playing career, Bale also revealed what life's been like since calling time on his career.

“It’s nice to be back in a football stadium,” Bale said. “I’m loving it. I’m actually getting to play golf now, rather than people writing about it.

“It’s been nice to spend time with my kids. When you’re playing you’re constantly travelling, playing, preparing, tired, sleeping in different rooms.

“Being there for them really and having family time.”

Fellow pundit Rio Ferdinand then asked Bale if he was becoming an “Uber driver” for his kids, to which Bale responded: “I’m on the app."

Bale netted a total of 106 goals for Real, including an iconic overhead kick against Liverpool in the 2018 Champions League final.

“I still remember it now and it was genuinely going in slow motion watching it go in,” Bale said looking back on that evening.

“It’s cool to look back on those memories. In my head I should have been starting. The fact I didn’t, I was more than upset. I came on with a point to prove.”
