Cardiff City would be 'perfect' for Steve Cooper says former Wales striker

Former Wales striker Malcolm Allen says Cardiff City should consider making a move for Steve Cooper following his sacking by Leicester City over the weekend.

Cooper was dismissed on Sunday after just 12 Premier League games in charge of the Foxes, while the hot seat in the capital has been vacant since City parted with Erol Bulut two months ago.

Omer Riza has been in interim charge ever since, but his long-term future remains unclear, amid suggestions that Croatian boss Slaven Bilic could be available in the new year.

Having masterminded a promotion with Nottingham Forest, Allen believes Cooper could prove a good fit for the Bluebirds.

"He's got a point to prove," he told the Coridor Ansicrwydd podcast when asked about Cooper's next possible move.

"He comes from the area, his family all live in the area.

"He needs to find a club where he's got more power than what he had at Leicester, and I think Cardiff would be perfect for him.

"The only problem he has is that Leicester City will continue paying him until he finds another club."

Cooper was, of course, in charge of Cardiff's bitter rivals Swansea City between 2019 and 2021, and twice led the club to the play-offs, including a final berth a Wembley.

Former Wales midfielder Owain Tudur Jones believes his time in SA1 might prove problematic to him taking the job at Cardiff City Stadium.

"I can't see Cooper going to Cardiff," he said.

"After being manager of Swansea would you go to Cardiff? I don't think so."
