Kris Boyd turns Rangers spoiler for Europa League party as trademark smirk fades before Philippe Clement inquiry

Nice were thumped but it wasn't all smiles from the Ibrox hero

Concerned Kris Boyd refused to lap up the Europa League party after Rangers smashed Nice - as he posed a lingering question to Philippe Clement.

The troubles of the domestic campaign were put on hold as the Scottish Premiership side demolished Nice on the road. Boyd couldn't hide his infamous smirk on Sky Sports as Clement's side racked up the goals through Vaclav Cerny, Mohamad Diomande and a Hamza Igamane double - with Badredine Bouanani taking away Jack Butland's clean sheet late in the game.

But that didn't spoil the party for the travelling support as they lapped up Rangers' biggest European away win since seeing off Lyon 3-0 in France back in 2007. However, the joy had drained from the face of Ibrox fan favourite Boyd by the full-time whistle as he faced the brutal reality of domestic matters once again - with a key question for the Belgian boss going into Sunday's clash with St Johnstone.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Boyd said: "Nice were very poor. I think you have got to give Rangers a lot of credit going away from home and scoring four goals - and by the way it should have been six or seven.

"They had golden opportunities, Cyriel Dessers misses an absolute sitter at the end, but it was a good night for Rangers in Europe. They needed this. Not only a result, but a really good performance.

"That is what Philippe Clement got from his team. It was really poor defending from Nice but Rangers won't care.

"To go away from home and score four goals - and it should have been more - they will be delighted. Philippe Clement will probably just be thinking to himself 'why can't I get this level of performance at home? Domestically and at Ibrox.' It just seems like two different teams."
