Gio van Bronckhorst suffers brutal Rangers deja vu as he is sacked by Besiktas after just five months

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been sacked by Besiktas after just five months in charge.

The decision from the Turkish outfit comes nearly two years to the day he was given the boot by Rangers. On November 21, 2002 the Light Blues parted ways with the Dutchman and now a couple years down the line Van Bronckhorst is back on the football scrap heap after a poor run of results and performances has cost him his gig in Turkey.

The final straw came on Thursday as his side suffered a shock Europa League defeat to Maccabi Tel Aviv. His side also sat sixth in the domestic standings and a huge 13 points off league leaders Galatasaray after just 12 games of the season. On the European scene it is just two wins from a possible five games with last night's results making it three defeats. They still have a chance to reach the knockout round but the new boss will have work to do to make that happen.
