Daniel Sturridge names 'absolutely ridiculous' Liverpool moment in first half vs Man City
The former Liverpool striker was impressed as the Reds cruised to a one goal lead against City at the break
Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge waxed lyrical about Mohamed Salah in the build-up to the Reds' opening goal against Manchester City.
Arne Slot's side were in complete control against their Premier League title rivals, blowing Pep Guardiola's struggling side out of the water inside the opening 45 minutes. The Reds had a flurry of chances in the opening stages of the game and found a way past City shot stopper Stefan Ortega in the 12th minute thanks to a moment of brilliance from Salah.
The Egyptian winger was played in down the right-hand side of the pitch, before setting up Cody Gakpo for the opener at Anfield. The Liverpool talisman showed great composure to not rush the attack, picking out his Dutch teammate with precise through ball to the back post, leaving the Reds forward with a tap in into an empty net.
"They were knocking on the door but no one was answering," Sturridge said on Sky Sports during his half-time analysis. "Then you see this pass, this is a world class pass first and foremost. To put it in an area like that with the right weight, then you see Mo.
"He's biding his time and this is absolutely ridiculous. To be able to squeeze the ball, the timing of it perfectly, the weight of it is perfect. I think in positions like this, certain wingers, they're just trying to put it in an area they're not really thinking about who they're aiming for.
"You see him analysing, he's looking up, he's waiting and times it perfectly. Cody Gakpo is thinking 'please lord, just let this hit the right body part.'
"[Salah] Keeps his head up, but look at this, analysing, waiting and it's inches from the keeper. World class."
