Borussia Dortmund managing director Carsten Cramer speaks out on rumours linking Jamie Gittens with a move to the Premier League.

Borussia Dortmund managing director Carsten Cramer has insisted that the club want to keep Jamie Gittens despite rumours over a potential Premier League move.

Gittens is under contract until the summer of 2028 after signing a new deal in October 2023 to commit his future to Dortmund.

However, Gittens's long-term deal has not stopped him from attracting interest from a number of top Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Liverpool.

Arsenal are believed to be keen to strengthen their wide options, while Liverpool may need attacking reinforcements if they fail to agree a new contract with Mohamed Salah.

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also believed to be keeping tabs on Gittens's progress, raising the prospect of a potential transfer battle in 2025.

Dortmund chief makes defiant claim over Gittens future

Gittens's future may be drawing significant speculation, but his current employers appear to have no plans to entertain a sale.

Cramer has insisted that the winger is an important player, playing down rumours that a Premier League move could be on the cards.

"He is very important, right now he is one of our players who makes the difference," Cramer told Anfield Watch. "Even if we had some problems on the pitch, he can be a difference-maker through his individual quality.

"He had some bad luck with injuries, but he's really focused. He's a Dortmund guy. When we convinced him to sign, we had a good example from former players like [Jude] Bellingham and [Jadon] Sancho, but not only the English ones, but others.

"The young ones know they will receive minutes on the pitch and that Dortmund is an excellent platform. It is our ambition to keep these players with us for as long as possible. It's not our aim to make as much money as quickly as possible. He is a player who makes a difference.

"But he's also a player who can be a good example to other young players that Dortmund gives you the time to develop yourself and educate yourself even if you are struggling with injuries.

"We are very, very happy to have him here. Happy with how he's playing, how he's behaving. He's so humble. He's a perfect Dortmund guy."

Gittens's journey to Dortmund star

Gittens spent time in the academy setups at Reading and Manchester City before he completed a move to Dortmund in 2020.

The England Under-21 international made his Bundesliga debut as a 17-year-old in a 6-1 victory over Wolfsburg in April 2022.

After struggling with a few injury issues, Gittens managed to stay fit for the majority of the 2023-24 season, allowing him to contribute two goals and eight assists in 34 competitive appearances.

The 20-year-old has built upon last season's solid foundation, having scored eight goals and provided four assists in 19 matches this term, including a goal in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Bayern Munich.
