Former Celtic favourite O'Riley swapped Parkhead for the English south coast in the summer in a record-setting move worth up to £30million.

His time with the Seagulls got off to a dire start as a horror challenge saw him subbed-off just eight minutes into his debut in a Carabao Cup clash against Crawley.

The tackle left O'Riley with an ankle injury, one that required surgery and cost him more than two months of action.

He returned as a substitute with Brighton trailing champions Man City 1-0 at home in early November - and what an impact he made on his Premier League debut.

Brighton levelled with 12 minutes to play before O'Riley fired a dramatic winner to secure a famous victory for his new side.

Having made his first league start in the 1-1 draw with Southampton at the weekend and retained his place in the XI for the trip to Fulham on Thursday night.

Unfortunately, it proved a nightmare night for O'Riley.

The 23-year old spent 13 years with Fulham and made his first team breakthrough with the club.

But with opportunities few and far between, he decided to move on in 2020 so would no doubt have been hoping to make a big impact on his return to Craven Cottage.

In the end, he would make a big impact and one that had a crucial effect on the result.

Unfortunately for O'Riley, it came in the form of an OWN GOAL.

And quite a bizarre own goal, at that.

An early Alex Iwobi strike gave Fulham the lead before Carlos Baleba levelled early in the second half.

On 79 minutes came O'Riley's moment to forget.

An Andreas Pereira corner flew straight towards the six yard box.

It was a wicked delivery and O'Riley was helpless as the ball crashed off of his BACKSIDE and went into the net.

The TV cameras didn't immediately cut to O'Riley, instead turning towards a certain Calvin Bassey.

The former Rangers defender was going absolutely WILD in celebration.

Bassey had a huge smile on his face as he ran away punching the air, suggesting that HE was trying to claim the goal.

Replays, however, showed he was nowhere near it and it was O'Riley who sent the ball flying into the net.

That didn't dampen the celebrations, however, with Bassey enjoying a little dance with corner taker Pereira.

Iwobi would score his second of the game in the dying minutes to seal a 3-1 win for Fulham.
