Carlos Corberan 'on list of targets' if Wolves make manager change
West Brom boss Carlos Corberan has been linked with the Wolves job if they decide to part with Gary O'Neil
West Bromwich Albion boss Carlos Corberan has been linked with a move to rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers, at a time when existing manager Gary O'Neil is coming under increasing pressure.
O'Neil presided over a 4-0 defeat to survival rivals Everton on Wednesday night, a result which leaves the club - who possess comfortably the worst defensive record in the Premier League - entrenched in the relegation zone and three points adrift of safety.
Wanderers now face three crucial games before Christmas; beginning with the trip to West Ham, O'Neil's former club and the side now of ex-Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui. They then come up against promoted sides Ipswich Town and Leicester City before hosting Manchester United on Boxing Day.
It remains to be seen whether O'Neil will be granted the time to turn things around and it would appear as though much depends on how they fare in London on Monday. David Moyes has been linked with O'Neil's job, too, and now reports have emerged from Italy that Corberan, just down the M6, is being considered in the event Fosun decide to make the change.
Corberan joined Albion a little over two years ago and replaced Steve Bruce. Inheriting a side in the Championship relegation zone, he lifted the club to the brink of the play-offs in the same season before securing a top six place last year. This campaign, Albion remain in the running for another crack at promotion.
"It’s not easy. I know what my dream is. I know where I want to put West Bromwich Albion," Corberan said on his two-year anniversary. "I'm not always going to be able to achieve what I want to achieve but I will make my best. If I don’t achieve, I will learn.
"I know the love I have for this club and for every single fan I meet after the games, for every single one that travels to support us and when you love them, the only thing you want is to give your best to them. I would love to give to them exactly what they want to achieve because where they want the club to be, I want to see too. I don’t know if I will achieve it one day or not, but I can promise I am going to put my life there to achieve it.”
Corberan will be talking to the media at his pre-Sheffield United press conference on Friday afternoon.
