Birmingham City are praying Alex Cochrane’s injury isn’t serious after the full-back was stretchered off six minutes into their victory at Barnsley.

Cochrane made way after a challenge involving Barnsley midfielder Adam Phillips, who was later sent off for two bookable offences. Taylor Gardner-Hickman replaced Cochrane with Ethan Laird switching to left-back.

“There was a bit of blood and a hole in the boot,” said Davies. “It didn't look good and for someone to go off on a stretcher like that is always concerning. I haven’t had an update so I can’t give anything specific.”

Blues arrived at Oakwell without Willum Willumsson and Lyndon Dykes due to illness. Davies was already without Keshi Anderson due to suspension and a clutch of injured players.

Explaining Willumsson and Dykes’ absences, Davies said: “They have both come down with illness, it’s that time of the year. We’ve got a suspension, two illnesses, some injuries, so we had six or seven bodies out today. We’re coming down towards the bare bones and that’s why it felt an even bigger win.”
