Manchester United's Under-19s will take on AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Youth League tonight.

The UEFA Youth League is a competition for academy sides of clubs who qualified for the Champions League, but United's youngsters forced their way into the competition.

Adam Lawrence oversaw a special campaign last term and his supremely talented Under-18 side won an unprecedented treble, with their victory in the Premier League National final against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in May securing their spot in this season's UEFA Youth League.

The Youth League is seen as a challenging but prestigious competition by academy staff and United lost 2-1 against AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of the third round two weeks ago.

The U19s have the challenge of turning the tie around but should be supported by a decent crowd at Old Trafford, as tickets for the game have been reasonably priced.

FULL-TIME! United U19s 0-0 AZ Alkmaar

That's the final whistle here at Old Trafford.

United crash out of the UEFA Youth League

85' - MUN 0-0 AZ - Obi Martin almost won a pen

He went down to the ground almost immediatley after his arrival but it wasn't given.

80' - MUN 0-0 AZ - 10 minutes remaining

Just 10 minutes left and Obi-Martin has been introduced.

76' - MUN 0-0 AZ - Great save

Murdock has been outstanding tonight and it says a lot when your goalkeeper is your best player.

He just made another crucial stop when it was one-on-one.

70' - MUN 0-0 AZ - United heading out

AZ have just struck the crossbar. Jasper Hartog should have buried that. There are 20 minutes remaining and United need a goal, as they're heading toward an exit from the UEFA Youth League. It feels like we could see Chido Obi-Martin introduced very soon.

65' - MUN 0-0 AZ - United struggling to create

United are really struggling to create in this game and haven't made any clear cut chances.

60' - MUN 0-0 AZ - Fredricson clears

Fredricson just made an important clearance to get rid of the AZ cross into the box.

55' - MUN 0-0 AZ - Two changes

Thwaites and Missin ON.

Ibragimov and Williams OFF.

50' - MUN 0-0 AZ - Wheatley loses it

Wheatley burst forward but lost the ball when he could have tried to take on his man.

45' - MUN 0-0 AZ - We're back under way here

Here we go for the second half - hopefully there's more action than in the first.

HALF-TIME! United U19s 0-0 AZ Alkmaar

That's the whistle for the break here.

There's not been much to report.

42 - MUN 0-0 AZ - Almost half-time

We're approaching half-time and Jackson has just tried his luck from distance.

39' - MUN 0-0 AZ - Not many chances

AZ created two big chances in the first few minutes but there hasn't been much action since.

34' - MUN 0-0 AZ - Fitzgerald with a lovely turn

Fitzgerald just performed a Cyruff turn and played a beautiful switch out to the left.

31' - MUN 0-0 AZ - Great cross

Fitzgerald just played a wonderful ball into the box but Ibramigov's header was saved.

26' - MUN 0-0 AZ - Break in play

We have an AZ player who is down and recieving treatment, so there's a break in play.

21' - MUN 0-0 AZ - It's an even game

United have responded well to AZ's fast start and are enjoying more of the ball.

17' - MUN 0-0 AZ - United's shape is interesting

United are down as 4-2-3-1 on the UEFA team sheet but there's fluidity to the system and the two full-backs are pushing really high, just like they would in Ruben Amorim's tactical system.

13' - MUN 0-0 AZ - Kamason providing energy

This is better from United. Kamason is providing width by bombing forward down the right channel and he must have clocked up some distance running already.

10' - MUN 0-0 AZ - This is better from United

This is better from United, who have settled into the game after a disappointing start.

6' - MUN 0-0 AZ - Kamason keeps it in

Kamason gets up and down the line and keeps the ball in but can't pick the right pass.

3' - MUN 0-0 AZ - What a save

United 'keeper Murdock has just made a superb save to deny AZ an opener. The away side have come flying out of the traps and should be ahead considering their two big chances.

2' - MUN 0-0 AZ - Huge chance for AZ

AZ have just missed a huge chance, which came within the first minute of the game.

1' - MUN 0-0 AZ - KICK-OFF!

We're under way at Old Trafford, so stick with the blog for live updates throughout.

Just a modest crowd

They're sat in the Sir Alex Ferguson stand.

The teams are out

Here we go, the teams have emerged from the dressing room for kick-off.

It is a small crowd

I'd say there's around 200 fans who have made the trip to Old Trafford tonight.

Not long until kick-off

Tonight's game will kick off at 7pm, so we're around 20 minutes away now.

Obi-Martin on the bench

Obi-Martin is on the bench here. He didn't come on in the reverse leg against AZ but I'm hoping we see him at some stage tonight, as will the fans who are attending this game.

What happened in the first leg?

United's U19s were defeated 2-1 by AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of this tie.

United took an early lead thanks to an AZ own-goal, but the hosts equalised before half-time and score again in the 67th minute, which was enough to seal the victory.

The U19s will have to turn over that deficit at Old Trafford tonight.
