Liverpool made sure they went would be four points clear of Chelsea at the top of the Premier League after beating Tottenham 6-3 in a nine goal Sunday afternoon thriller.

The Reds got off to a flying start in the first half, with Luis Diaz and Alexis Mac Allister putting Liverpool 2-0 up before Spurs responded through James Maddison. However, Dominik Szoboszlai restored Liverpool's two-goal advantage with a stunning counter-attack just before half-time.

Then after the break, goals flew in from all over. Mohamed Salah got in on the act with a brace, before Spurs scored twice through Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke to make it 5-3. But after there looked to be a few nerves setting in for the Reds, they then wrapped up proceedings through Diaz, who scored his second of the evening.

The win means Liverpool moved clear of Chelsea, who drew their Sunday afternoon clash with Everton at Goodison Park 0-0. With Liverpool having a game in hand on the other Premier League title challengers, they will know that they just need to keep their noses ahead of the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea until they face off against Everton, with a result in that game an opportunity to put themselves even further clear.

While the goals will undoubtedly be a hot topic, Trent Alexander-Arnold's assist for Diaz's goal will also be remembered fondly, particularly by the Colombian striker himself, reports Liverpool.com.

Diaz was given a chance to make amends for last season's VAR controversy when Alexander-Arnold's precise cross found the striker, putting Liverpool in the lead. The 27-year-old expressed his gratitude to his right-back during his goal celebration.

In a joyful moment between the pair, Diaz mimed polishing Alexander-Arnold's boots, signalling his belief in the magic touch of Trent's right foot. This gesture underscored the importance of the England international to the team.

The 26-year-old's contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and as of now, there has been no progress in discussions to extend his deal. His assist for Diaz demonstrates the Scouser's ball skills, which will be tough for the Reds to replace if he departs.
