Trent Alexander-Arnold has shared a message on social media after Liverpool's remarkable 6-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur in north London.

Despite not getting on the scoresheet for Liverpool's goal fest, the 26-year-old set up for Luis Diaz's opener by providing a superb cross. Diaz himself, appreciated the assist and during celebrations, he pretended to shine Alexander-Arnold's boots in a joyful moment between the pair.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Alexander-Arnold shared a picture which portrayed that moment and captioned: "Christmas number 1." The England international is, of course, referring to the Reds spending Christmas at the top of the Premier League table.

Gary Neville praised the England international on commentary for Sky Sports, saying: "The pass is brilliant. To get the ball into that space was literally amazing. Liverpool are four points clear of second-placed Chelsea - who shared the spoils against Everton at Goodison Park. The stalemate between the sides means Liverpool can extend their gap to seven points if they beat their local rivals, Everton on February 11.

The Merseyside Derby was initially postponed due to Storm Darragh earlier this month.

There is a major doubt over Alexander-Arnold's future, having entered the final months of his deal at Anfield. Real Madrid have been monitoring his situation and could be tempted to negotiate a pre-agreement in the New Year.

As it stands, the defender will be free to engage in conversations with clubs abroad next month. Jamie Carragher believes the right-back should sign a new contract to avoid leaving for free next summer. "If I was advising Trent, a lot of it is to do with the free transfer," he said on Sky Sports.

"It is that feeling that you are leaving us for nothing, where is our money to replace you? I would say, sign a contract, have a decent buyout clause that’s not ridiculous and if Real Madrid wanted to buy you in 12 months time...."
