Watford star Kwadwo Baah was sent off after the final whistle in the Hornets' 2-1 win against Portsmouth on Boxing Day afternoon after taunting away fans with a video game celebration.

Baah had been instrumental to the hosts taking the win that extended their 16-game unbeaten streak at Vicarage Road after he went down in the box upon being caught by Freddie Potts.

Initially awarded as a goalkick, the referee overturned his initial judgement after input from the linesman to offer Watford a penalty - despite replays showing that contact had taken place outside of the penalty area.

Edo Kayembe stepped up to the spot to equalise in the second-half, drawing the hosts level for the first time since the tenth minute, and Zak Swanson's opener.

Although it looked like a point would be shared in the Championship clash going into extra time, Rocco Vata took advantage of Nicolas Schmid straying off his line to strike into an empty net and claim all three for the home side.

But with tensions at fever pitch as Geoff Eltringham blew his whistle, Baah could not resist rubbing salt into the wounds of the travelling fans in peculiar style.

Making his way over the away support, Baah performed the 'Take the L' dance popularised in Fortnite, drawing the ire of fans who already had the player at fault for the controversial equaliser.

Some supporters even attempted to get onto the pitch, prompting stewards to spring into action to keep them inside the stands.

Baah's actions also riled up the despondent Pompey players, some of whom started for the Germany Under-19s player before his team-mates and manager Tom Cleverley could intervene.

The player later received a second yellow for his goading of the travelling support, with Portsmouth boss John Mousinho arguing that his behaviour was a sackable offence.

Mousinho also laid into Eltringham after the final whistle, insisting that his behaviour was short of the standard required.

The manager said: 'I thought the referee's performance, particularly in the second half, was well below the standard we need at this level. It was very, very strange, the whole performance.

'I'm furious because we need more. I'm just lost for words about how we have to deal with this every single week.'

On Baah, he added: 'We will never ever do that. If one of my players did that they would be in serious danger of never playing for the club again.'

That annoyed Watford manager Cleverley, who had not been impressed with Mousinho's touchline behaviour which saw him booked after the penalty went in.

He said: 'To hear that John has been commenting on my players is disappointing.

'There was a group of players who kept their head during the second half and that was radiated from our bench. And there was a group that lost theirs, which was radiated from their bench.

'I'm disappointed with John's comments because his own behaviour was ultimately what cost his team in the second half. I won't aim anything at the referee - it was a difficult game to manage.'

Cleverley made no attempt however to excuse Baah, who had been booked in the first half for a challenge on Matt Ritchie.

'I will deal with KB internally,' he added. 'You want to win with humility and dignity.

'I want all my players to be under the microscope at high levels and KB needs to get use to that sort of scrutiny. He will come under abuse at times and has to deal with it better.

'Now he is earning his lesson the hard way. We have to say he deserved it. You are told as players and coaches you can't goad supporters because of the hostile environment that can cause.'
