Chris Kamara paid a touching tribute to Jeff Stelling after the pair were re-united in the world of broadcasting during Amazon Prime's Boxing Day coverage of the Premier League.

Kamara and Stelling were among football's most iconic faces on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday programme, with the former producing some of the channel's most memorable reporting moments, while the latter was the anchor of the show for more than two decades. Former Middlesbrough player Kamara stepped down from his role in 2022 after revealing he had been diagnosed with apraxia, a neurological disorder that makes it difficult for him to speak

Stelling meanwhile remained in his position until the end of the 2022/2023 season before taking a step back from broadcasting with his influence with the channel waning. The Hartlepool United fan has completed work for talkSport since quitting Sky and this weekend made his return to live televised Premier League converage.

Saturday also marked Kamara's first, and possibly last, return to covering a match live as he relayed updates from Nottingham Forest vs Tottenham. It was a poignant moment for Kamara amid his health struggles but he immediately struck up his chemistry of old with Stelling and following his day of work complimented his long time friend and experience.

"Beyond my wildest dreams, doing the game with you today Jeff," he posted on X. "The TV company’s won’t let that be your last game. But thank you so much. If that was my last hurrah then que sera, sera."

Stelling had already posted his own messaging citing how much he enjoyed the experience. "If that’s it for me on TV a great way to finish with my old mate @chris_kammy alongside me. Loved every single minute," he said.

Coverage saw plenty of banter between the pair as Stelling welcomed Kamara to the day's coverage. Kamara quipped: "Thank you, Jeff. I have got the best game of the day. When Amazon rang me up I thought they wanted me to deliver parcels, but they sent the game, yes!"

Former Goals on Sunday host Kamara has appeared on the Masked Singer, with his move onto Prime coverage another positive step. The ex-Portsmouth, Brentford, Stoke and Leeds player has endured some difficult moments with his condition and has previously revealed he found improvement after undergoing treament in Mexico.

Speaking at Iain Dale’s All Talk event at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Kamara said: "I've been there twice now. I'm going back for a third time.

"I've got the fluency in my speech. The only thing I haven't got is the speed of old, I know I talk 300 miles an hour before, but I'd like that back if I can. So I'm going back for more treatment."
