Bruno Guimaraes has told fans that his main aim for 2025 is to become the first man to hoist a trophy for Newcastle United since Bob Moncur.

Moncur will be 80 in January, but I would love nothing more than to see somebody take away the unwanted tag of being the last man to lift a trophy for the Magpies. However, despite plenty of transfer talk going into the January window with Bruno linked with Manchester City, he has underlined his focus for life with the black and whites - and his own personal quest to take Moncur's longstanding record away.

When asked what his aims for a successful 2025 were, Guimaraes told the United magazine: "Of course, to get back to European football, but the best one for me is to lift a trophy for the club.

"It's something that I really want to do - like, really, really, want with all my power. I really want to do something for the fans. I think we deserve it. We were too close once, but I think if we go again, we have to handle this with all the strength we have."

Eddie Howe is delighted with the way Bruno has settled into his role as captain and feels he will continue to get better and better as the main dressing room leader.

Howe said: "I think he's responded really well to it, highlighted probably by his assist, where he's really high up the pitch winning the ball back and assisting Alex with a really good press.

"I think he's done that part of the game really well, so I'm very pleased with his attitude to the change. You have to get the player to buy in and he's been absolutely first-class with that.”
