Fuming Kris Boyd has called out the Rangers players for applauding the travelling support after a dismal display against Motherwell.

It was a tough afternoon at Fir Park for the Light Blues as they fell two goal behind a the break thanks to goals from Apostolos Stamatelopoulos and Tawanda Maswanhise as Philippe Clement's men struggled to handle the Steelmen on their own turf. However, Hamza Igamane would come off the bench at the break to replace Cyriel Dessers and claim a point for Rangers ahead of the crucial clash with Celtic to open 2025 with the Hoops now enjoying a 14 point lead over their rivals at the Scottish Premiership summit.

Despite this, James Tavernier led the players over to the travelling support to applaud but was met with a furious reaction from the punters who audibly booed the struggling stars. And baffled Boyd said as the Sky Sports cameras panned across the crowd: "I have never understood this. I think cup finals and if you have won things, go and celebrate with your fans, but after a league game dust yourself down.

"You were 12 points behind Celtic coming into the game and you are now 14 points. You have got an Old Firm on Thursday, if you're a betting man there is only one way that's going to go.

"You look at Rangers just now there is a lot of issues on the park. A manager that is chopping and changing a team to try and get results. We can gloss over it all we want in terms of the second half, the first half was an absolute shambles."
