Joelinton reveals key to Newcastle resurgence after ending miserable Man Utd run
Newcastle's 2-0 triumph over Manchester United on Monday made it five wins a row for Eddie Howe's side, with European football now a distinct possibility after a festive resurgence
Joelinton has insisted Newcastle will stay humble as they look to challenge for the top four.
The Brazil powerhouse led Newcastle to a fifth victory in a row with a goal, as Eddie Howe’s side dismantled Manchester United at Old Trafford. Joelinton says the confidence is flowing as they face another two big away games at Spurs and Arsenal, before a run of six home games out of eight.
Newcastle have scored 16 goals in their last five games, conceding just once, and soared back into contention for European qualification. They also have a Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal on the horizon.
Joelinton said: “We were very confident. Everyone is playing well with confidence. We know we have to keep our feet on the ground, be humble and work hard. It is not an easy game and we have to protect our confidence now. The same way it came, it can go so we have to be focused on the next game.

A win on the road and to put the team back up there, it was a great feeling for the players and the fans. We knew about our record at Old Trafford (one win the Premier League times before Monday night). I have been here five-and-a-half years and we have had difficult games here. The fans, too, have had a difficult time.
“To come and play great football here and win is a great feeling. For the goal, I timed my run and wanted to be in the box. I had to take the chance when it came. We have played well the last few games and we feel good about ourselves and I feel good physically. We are confident, enjoying the football and playing free and this can continue for a long time.”

Key to the revival has been the chemistry of the midfield three, with Sandro Tonali anchoring and Burno Guimaraes released further forward. Alexander Isak has also proved himself the hottest striker in Europe with 12 goals in 13 games.
Joelinton added: “It is easy to play with Sandro and Bruno. High quality. You have to be in the right spot, bring the team up field in the box and try to score. We want to help the team.
“We have to keep our feet on the ground. We have achieved nothing yet. Big games are coming up and we focus on the next one, away, Spurs and we will be ready to keep going.”
