RYAN KENT has endured a miserable time of things since leaving Rangers a year-and-a-half ago.

But he could be about to land a fresh start alongside a familiar face or two.

Kent, 28, departed Rangers at the conclusion of the 2022/23 season after a five-year spell.

He was one of several big names to exit Ibrox upon the expiry of their contracts.

The winger, part of the Scottish Premiership title-winning side of 2021, didn't have to wait long to find a new home.

Kent was snapped-up on a free transfer by Turkish giants Fenerbahce and he signed a four-year deal.

But almost immediately, his time in Istanbul looked like it might be limited.

He fell out of favour quickly and was frozen out midway through the season.

A January switch to Lazio fell through and although Kent seemed certain to move on in the summer transfer window, nothing was forthcoming again.

That was despite new Fener boss Jose Mourinho making it clear Kent wasn't part of his plans.

Having featured just once all season - in a Champions League qualifier back in July - Kent's four-year deal was ripped up in October.

That's left him as a free agent and almost a week into the January transfer window, Kent remains without a club.

Prior to joining Rangers from Liverpool, Kent had turned out for Coventry City, Barnsley and Bristol City.

And he could now make a return to English football.

That's because SunSport columnist Alan Nixon says that Blackburn Rovers are checking a move for the winger.

The promotion hopefuls are also interested in signing Jeffrey Schlupp from Crystal Palace.

And it's suggested that Schlupp's ability to play both on the wing and at left-back could give him the edge over Kent, as far as Blackburn are concerned.

Experienced Schlupp, 32, would be available on loan before becoming a free agent himself in the summer.

If Blackburn were to swoop for Kent, it would see him link up with a rather familiar face.

Todd Cantwell is now plying his trade at Ewood Park after moving from Rangers in the summer.

Kent and Cantwell briefly crossed paths at Ibrox, with Cantwell joining the club in January 2023, four months before Kent's time at the club came to an end.

Former Aberdeen winger Ryan Hedges and Scotland cap Dominic Hyam are among the other players on the books at Blackburn.
