Arsenal are busy preparing for Tuesday night's Carabao Cup clash against Newcastle United as they seek a first major trophy since 2020.
The Gunners were left frustrated last time out in their 1-1 draw at Brighton in the Premier League. Had Arsenal come away from the AMEX Stadium with all three points, the gap would have only been four points to Liverpool at the top of the table.
The games are coming thick and fast for Mikel Arteta's side, but attention will also be on the January transfer window. So far, there has been more business done with players leaving the club.
However, the Gunners continue to need reinforcements in attack following Bukayo Saka's injury. Among the names being linked are Newcastle star Alexander Isak and Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic.
Other players being linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium are Brentford's Mikkel Damsgaard and Bryan Mbeumo.

Rosicky a 'leading contender' for Arsenal role
Tomas Rosicky could be set for a return to Arsnenal, with the Guardian reporting that he is a 'leading contender' for the sporting director role.
The former midfielder is currently in a similar role at Sparta Prague, having taken the job in 2018. Arsenal are reported to be thinking of turning to Rosicky as they search for a replacement for Edu.
The report adds that talks are continuing, but the 44-year-old would prefer to see out the season with Sparta before moving, with Arsenal willing to take their time on the appointment.

Rodgers provides Tierney update
Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that 'bits and pieces' are going on in the transfer window, with Celtic heavily linked with a move for Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney.
The left-back looks likely to return to his former club in the January transfer window.
Speaking in a press conference on Tuesday, Rodgers said:
"There are a few little bits and pieces going on in the background with both ins and outs but nothing to declare as of yet."
Arsenal FFP situation explained
While Arsenal may have been stymied in each of the last two seasons in their bid to become Premier League champions, the return of the Gunners as a competitive force at the top of English football’s top tier has boosted their chances of future success.
The second-placed finish in 2022/23 was the first time that Arsenal had secured a top-four slot, and with it lucrative UEFA Champions League football, since the 2015/16 Premier League campaign when Leicester City were crowned champions. The following 2016/17 season in the Champions League was, until last season, Arsenal’s final before they entered into the Europa League hinterland.
Europa League football is far less lucrative than the Champions League to the tune of tens of millions. The enormous broadcast deals for European football’s elite knockout club competition, allied with the expanded format which means an extra two games, means that it has never been so valuable.

Predicted XI
Arsenal have a very important match on their hands as they have a chance to reach a cup final but must navigate two very tough matches against Newcastle United. The Magpies have won their last six games and in very strong form while the Gunners continue to suffer squad losses and be affected by illness.
Ethan Nwaneri is the latest player to suffer a problem, as Mikel Arteta has confirmed the 17-year-old will be out for a few weeks after suffering a muscular problem against Brighton. The attacking options have thinned to a point where if Kai Havertz has not overcome illness, there may be zero attacking senior players whatsoever on the bench.
While this might make predicting the team much easier on paper, in reality, we have little idea about how ready the likes of Havertz or Martin Odegaard are. That said football.london's chief Arsenal writer Tom Canton gives his thoughts on what he is expecting Arteta to go with here

Team news hint
Raheem Sterling has dropped an early team news hint ahead of Arsenal's clash against Newcastle United. The Gunners will lock horns with the Magpies at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night as they look to get the upper hand in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.
Arsenal will be eager to return to winning ways after they were held to a draw by Brighton on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, Newcastle, who have won each of their last six games across all competitions, will be looking to pick up from where they left off after storming past Tottenham Hotspur.
Nevertheless, Sterling has posted pre-match graphic previews of the Magpies fixture to his Instagram story. Usually, this suggests that he'll be involved in some capacity despite questions marks over his fitness.

Michael Oliver in Arsenal spotlight once more
Arsenal supporters must be exasperated whenever they see Michael Oliver as the official for one of their matches. The referee has shown more red cards to Arsenal than any other club in the Premier League.
Oliver has shown three straight red cards to Arsenal players during his refereeing career, with four more shown for second yellow cards. Everton are the next worst with six red cards received from Oliver.
Oliver has also brandished 108 yellow cards in the direction of Arsenal players - seven more than Everton have received and eight more than Liverpool.

Goalscoring point
Emmanuel Petit has had his say on Gabriel Jesus and what Arsenal need to do to challenge at the top.
"I like Gabriel Jesus but he's not a typical 25-goal striker in the Premier League," he said via DisCasino
"He only scored 14 Premier League goals in his best season at Manchester City. Arsenal need their striker to score more goals than that if they want a chance of winning the Premier League.
"I don't think it's a matter of a singular player scoring a lot of goals but scoring more goals as a team altogether. The game against Everton was an example, they needed six or seven chances to even try and score a goal. They need more players to chip in.
"Arsenal can't keep dropping points to mediocre teams if they want to be fighting for the title."

'Arsenal need three or four players'
Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes his old club need several new additions but admits the January transfer window is tough.
"Arsenal don't just need a striker, I think they needed at least three or four more players last summer," he said via DisCasino.
"They need a left-winger, a striker and an attacking midfielder. This January transfer market is tough, though.
"It will be very hard to find good opportunities to sign good players for a reasonable price. I don't think it's part of Mikel Arteta's policy to sign players for an absurd amount of money."

Premier League 'cannot relegate' Man City
Manchester City have been told by a finance expert that they cannot be relegated from the Premier League if they are found guilty of the most serious of their 115 alleged breaches of financial rules.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham's top flight rivals, City, were charged in February 2023 over alleged breaches from 2009 until 2018 of violating the league's financial regulations. The reigning champions deny all charges with a hearing into the case concluding last month.
If found guilty of violating the English top-flight's financial regulations between 2009 and 2018, City could face severe repercussions, such as relegation, a significant points deduction, hefty fines, or even the stripping of titles.

Rashford plea
Marcus Rashford has been told that Mikel Arteta would get the best out of him if he left Manchester United to join Arsenal.
"Rashford would be an interesting signing for Arsenal." former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit told DisCasino.
"I'm very frustrated with Gabriel Martinelli's performances at the moment, he's very inconsistent and it's annoying to watch. He's been like a ghost on the pitch.
"Competition for a spot in the XI is important for Arsenal, look at Liverpool's bench, the quality they have is amazing. I know Nico Williams has been linked, but I'm told he'll never come to the Premier League if he leaves Athletic Bilbao, he'd only go to Barcelona. The Raheem Sterling gamble has not worked.
"Rashford, if he's in the team and playing football in a good environment with a manager who trusts him, you will see the best of him. Is that manager Mikel Arteta? If I'm him, I would definitely have an eye on that situation at Manchester United. He's not the same player from two years ago, but we all know the level he can reach, quality like that doesn't just disappear."

Neville calls out 'frustrating' Arsenal pair
Gary Neville has been left "frustrated" by Arsenal forwards Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz for their poor positioning during the team's recent run.
He said: said: "Jesus, I watched him again last night, I actually love Gabriel Jesus, he's got a lot of heart – but he is everywhere except where you want him.
"Havertz is a little bit the same, you want them really in that six-yard box. It is just a bit frustrating watching them at times because I think they have got something about them, the journey they are on with the manager, and they will be happy today that Liverpool have dropped points and they are still in it – but they are going to have to improve enormously, I think."

Vlahovic swap
Manchester United have reportedly been offered Arsenal-linked Dusan Vlahovic in exchange for Joshua Zirkzee.
The Serb has featured 16 times for Juventus in Serie A this season, scoring seven goals and providing one assist. Playing a key role in Thiago Motta's team, he has helped the Old Lady climb to fifth in the table, and they remain unbeaten.
And TalkSPORT claim that Juventus have offered Vlahovic as part of a swap deal, with the forward's contract up in 18 months time.

Early January transfer decision
West Ham have entered the race to sign Brighton star Evan Ferguson - possibly thwarting Arsenal's plans for the young striker this January.
Despite only two Premier League starts so far this term, Ferguson has caught the eye of the Gunners with reports hinting at Arsenal's interest in securing his services if the Seagulls are willing to negotiate. talkSPORT has indicated that Brighton might consider a loan move for the 20-year-old, albeit with an obligation to buy clause.
The Daily Telegraph reveals that West Ham, currently hampered by injuries to Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen, have identified Ferguson as one of three top striker targets. The Hammers' shortlist also includes Middlesbrough's leading scorer Emmanuel Latte Lath and Wolves' Hwang Hee-Chan.

Damsgaard update
Arsenal want to sign Brentford winger Mikkel Damsgaard in the January transfer window, it is claimed.
Spanish publication Fichajes claim that Damsgaard has caught the attention of Arsenal and the north London outfit are willing to make a strong bid for his signing.
It is said that the Bees do not rule out selling him if an offer of around 40 million euros (£33m).

Mbeumo stance
According to Fabrizio Romano via GIVEMESPORT, if the Gunners were looking towards Brentford for highly capable cover at right-wing then they must go back to the drawing board.
He says the Bees have no intention of parting ways with Bryan Mbeumo this month.
At 25 years of age - so still yet to hit the so-called prime years of a footballer - the Cameroonian has grown in stature since his team's promotion to the English top-flight. He currently sits with 13 goals and three assists in 20 appearances this term.
The same can be said for Wolves' in-form Matheus Cunha, with only a 'crazy proposal' enough for either club to reconsider their current stance.

Isak statement
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has admitted Newcastle star Alexander Isak is a "top player" as the Gunners continue to be linked with the in-form striker.
Isak - who has been valued at £150m by the Magpies - has been one of the most lethal finishers in the Premier League this season after smashing in 13 goals so far, including six goals in his last four matches.
"Yeah obviously he's a top player, he's in top form scoring a lot of goals. Trying to minimise the strength of the opposition," Arteta said in his pre-match press conference.
The Spaniard was then asked about the likelihood of Arsenal being active in the January transfer window to which he replied: "What happens in the market, we are very alert."
