Former Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes Ben Chilwell needs to ensure a move away from Stamford Bridge is completed in the January transfer window, with two clubs offered up as potential exit routes.
Chilwell was informed at the beginning of the season by head coach Enzo Maresca that he was unlikely to feature for Chelsea under his regime. Since then, that prediction has become a reality with the full-back featuring just once this campaign - a 45 minute run out in September against League Two Barrow.
The English defender missed out on a transfer in the summer window after concerns regarding his recent injury history led to a lack of options. Speaking exclusively to football.london, DisCasino ambassador Petit believes there is still a chance that Chilwell could forge a career in the Premier League.
"Ben Chilwell has to leave Chelsea, possibly in January," he explained. "It reminds me of the Aaron Ramsdale situation at Arsenal where his main aim was just to be on the pitch.
"I can't remember the last time Chilwell played a game to be honest. There will be some clubs interested in Chilwell but the wages are the main problem.
"He's currently on more than 200k a week, so he'll need to cut down on his wages if he wants to play elsewhere. Maybe Manchester United will be interested in him, but they're happy with Diogo Dalot at the moment, so he won't want to go sit on the bench there.
"Chilwell lives in London, so I could imagine him joining the likes of Fulham or another London club, but Chelsea will need to make a deal about his wages." United are currently on the hunt for left-sided defenders with PSG's Nuno Mendes the latest to be linked with the club.
Fulham could also be on the lookout for a left-back soon too considering Antonee Robinson's stellar form this campaign. It has been reported that Chelsea would be looking for £12.45m to sell him.
